Ymca Child Care @ Salem Ymca Family Center

We have been going to the Salem Family Y for almost 3 years now, through preschool and now summer camp and after care. The staff are amazing. I know that my son has a blast and is well cared for (and that they will be communicative when needed). My son looks forward to going to the Y and seeing his friends and staff. We feel lucky to have such a welcoming and fun place for our son, can't wait for our daughter to join him next year! Highly recommend!

My son is 7 years old, he has been with YMCA in Salem Road for after school and summer camp. He likes it and never gets bored to go there every day after school. Even though the place is not big but enough space for them to run around and play soccer. They have young care teachers I like the most as they can play together. Jennifer is very kind every time when I go to pick up my son. I would recommend give a chance to take a tour before you make a decision.

I was disappointed to learn that Jennifer Pope, the facility’s director, has departed. Her leadership was the principal reason I chose to enroll my child here, and since her exit the center has struggled to maintain the same level of guidance and cohesion. While the remaining staff continue to care for the children with dedication and skill, the overall quality of the program has suffered. I have attempted to reach the current leadership for clarification and guidance, but my inquiries have not been answered. I sincerely hope the center can persuade Jennifer or recruit someone of comparable experience and vision to return. I would love to see the center maintain its previously level of professionalism and care. If this matter cannot be resolved promptly, I will need to consider alternative childcare arrangements.

We’ve been with the Salem Y for several years. Initially when we switched over there seemed to have been frequent turn overs with directors and communication was subpar at best. Since Ms. Jennifer has taken over as director there has been significant improvements with the communication. Our daughter is now in the before and after program and still loves her time there! Matter of fact I get “talked to” by her when she’s picked up too early and they’re in the middle of an activity. Grateful for having this small yet intimate location to take our girl too and we’re appreciative for the improvements Ms. Jennifer and her staff have and continue to make! Y’all keep doing a great job

I planned on allowing my nine year old daughter to attend summer camp at this location. But upon visiting the location, I chose not to allow my daughter to attend that location. The Salem YMCA is not suitable for Children over 9. The location is small, it can be compared to the size of a small daycare for toddlers and babies. Furthermore, when I try to call the location, no one picks up. The communication is poor and the facilities are unsatisfactory for older kids. I just wanted to send a warning out because they are not providing the proper information.
