What Parents Say
Parents praise the Princess Anne Family YMCA's friendly, well-maintained facility with quality childcare for infants and toddlers, excellent pool amenities, and inclusive community atmosphere. However, some parents express concerns about limited activities and amenities for children over 5 when not enrolled in paid after-school care, and frustration with membership pricing and cancellation policies.
I signed up our family on February 2, 2026. Canceled the membership the very next day. Why? Glad you asked. Within five minutes of stretching yes, stretching in what we reasonably assumed was a designated area, a staff member approached my wife, my nine year old son, and me to ask my son’s age. We were then informed, rather abruptly, that no minors under 13 are allowed in that area. Fair enough, rules are rules. Except those weren’t the rules we were sold the day before. At signup, we were clearly told that members 13 and up may work out independently, while children 12 and under are allowed so long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. When we pointed out the contradiction, we weren’t met with clarification… just a stern double-down. The issue isn’t the policy. It’s the delivery, the inconsistency, and being corrected in front of a child after being given conflicting information less than 24 hours earlier. SO HERE IS MY TAKE AWAY…don’t rely on the sales pitch. Read the fine print, ask for everything in writing, and understand that what’s promised at signup may not survive your first five minutes on the floor.
I would not suggest to sign your child up for any sports! I signed my daughter up for flag football 4/26, the class was to start 6/3, drove 30 mins just to find out when I got there no one was there for flag football! The lady asked did I get any information or an email I told her the Y NEVER sent any additional information after I paid for the class on 4/26 she apologized for that and I was told I would receive a call from Caesar the manager explaining what’s going on that day, never got a call I had to call him myself on 6/9. When he called me back I was told there weren’t enough kids who signed up so that’s why flag football wasn’t going on NO APOLOGY or anything how would I as a parent know that information??!! He asked if I wanted a credit on the account and to call back for July to see if enough kids sign up, I told him I didn’t want to do that and be in the same situation so I would like a refund, here it is 6/24 I still haven’t received a refund yet! My money shouldn’t have been held this long regardless when the Y noticed there weren’t enough kids signed up for the class to begin with!!
Never any lifeguards for indoor pool, and terrible customer service at the front desk. Really had higher expectations, why are we paying so much for membership if we can’t have accessibility to what we got the membership for? They don’t update their website and we waste a whole trip to find out they are closed for no life guards.
I booked swim lessons for my child at this YMCA for a program containing four sessions. The first week was cancelled due to pool maintenance, which is entirely avoidable as they should be planning their programming around this. The third week was cancelled via email at 9 PM the evening prior and calls were made less than 30 minutes before the program start time the morning of. At this point, I have been informed by other parents that they received an email explaining that a full refund would be processed due to the program not meeting YMCA standards. I did not receive said email. The fourth week was not cancelled at that time. The fourth week was cancelled day of with notice made only to members. When asking for more information the receptionist was quite rude. I went out on a limb booking programming through the YMCA since I am not a member and I will never again. Avoid this YMCA if you want to get value out of the programs you are paying for.
This review is for the outdoor pool. It’s awesome. I wish more organizations would pay for the year round outdoor pool. The benefits of fresh air swimming far outweigh the cold!!
