I joined primarily to use the pool, but the online schedule is rarely accurate or updated. On multiple occasions, I have arrived expecting open swim or lap lanes, only to find the entire pool taken by swim teams or organizations that were not listed online, or whose reserved times extended well beyond what was posted. At times, nothing is scheduled online at all, yet the pool is completely unavailable and the leisure pool is also closed. Additionally, when swim practice is occurring, lanes 7 and 8 are supposed to remain open to the general public, but this is often not enforced. Another concern is that lifeguards frequently allow children to horseplay and use lanes in the lap pool. This interferes with lap swimmers and creates both safety and fairness issues. Many members, myself included, believe there should be a strict rule against this. I understand that scheduling a pool is complex, but accurate and reliable communication is essential. Members plan their workouts around the posted schedule, and it is very discouraging to repeatedly arrive and be unable to swim. I hope you will consider improving schedule updates, enforcing lane policies, and ensuring that general members have consistent access to the pool. Until then, I would give the overall experience with the Delaware YMCA pool and staff a one star experience.
We were here for a swim meet, but the facility is great and very clean.
The YMCA itself is a great facility, however, whoever is in charge of updating the online scheduling is seriously neglecting their duties. It is a HUGE disservice for the members. We all pay a monthly fee to the YMCA and to not have a reliable way to know if you are able to use areas of the YMCA, is absolutely unacceptable. The POOL in particular is an extremely frustrating example. There have been countless times where swim practices for different organizations/swim meets/ lessons/ etc…. use up the entire lap pool AND/OR kick you out of the pool. This would be understandable if it was scheduled and posted online but it is not. We pay to use this facility and should be able to use it. It’s actually bizarre how badly this is ran. *** Response to YMCA’s comment: I should not have to subscribe to an additional news letter for the online scheduling to be up-to-date and accurate. Whoever is in charge of the swim schedule and enforcing the rules is not doing their job. I’ve talked to multiple other members who have the same frustrations. Also, I have called before and asked about the lap pool being open, been told it’s open for members, drove there to swim, and all lanes are being used by some swim practice. What a waste of time and energy. Why is there even online scheduling system if it isn’t true? This is all very poorly ran.
Inaccurate availability for pool - Why are there always swim meets taking up all the lanes? There were 3 of us trying to share ONE lane. I started to double check by calling and staff give misinformation. Say pool is open nothing going on then show up and a swim meet is going on. And phones in sauna? Not relaxing and privacy concern. No thanks
Feels like every time I go to swim, there is a practice going on or a swim meet (which are not on the online schedule). Showed up at 4:40 and couldn’t use the lap or 2 lane pool due to swim practice and lessons - although 2 lap pool stated it would be open per the online schedule. Serious DETAILED updates needed to the pool schedule. It should be noted online if there is a swim meet from 5-9P on a given day and the 2 lap/leisure pool cannot be used by any members either. Super frustrating to pay for a membership that it feels like I can’t make the most out of.
