What Parents Say

The Little House Next Door has mostly positive reviews praising staff friendliness, cleanliness, and a recent improvement under new director Ms. Carrie. However, one detailed negative review describes serious safety concerns including a child escape, alleged harsh discipline, and an unsubstantiated DCF report of choking, with the reviewer noting their child thrived after transferring to another facility.

My 6yr old attended little house for 4yrs, my 4yr old has been going since she was 2months old. I love the teachers and the new director Ms. Carrie. We’ve seen a decent amount of teachers come and go with the old director. There was a point where I no longer wanted my kids to attend here but after changes were made and Ms.Carrie came along I am very happy and pleased with the way things are being ran! I am excited to start my 10month old here next! I love being able to have the cameras in the class rooms and seeing how happy the teachers are now! It really is a great environment. The only thing I would change is the hours there open lol

It has taken me sometime to decide if I wanted to make this review or not. But as it has shaped my view of daycares and the uneasiness I now feel sending my daughters off everyday, I feel it’s my duty to other parents to let them know. My daughters attended daycare here for about 8 months. The first week of school, I got a call from Miss B and DCF. My 3 year old had escaped the school. She was walking downtown and a local business saw her and returned her to the school, unsure of even if that’s where she came from. Just taking a chance. They did do what was necessary and put a buzzer system on the door, but curious why it wasn’t there in the first place. I was told by a former employer that this had happened before, and Miss B had already assured me that it had not. Their website says they have a gold seal, but I heard they lost it when my daughter escaped. I had seen my daughter almost escape 2 more times just when I was picking her up. One from the playground, one from the door. I hadn’t seen many problems after that. Nothing out of the ordinary. But one day I came to pick up my daughter early as she had a doctor appointment. I was in the hallway when the 2 year olds were coming in from a playground. A little boy was making noises like a siren. Miss B (the principal/owner/boss whatever you want to call her) came flying out of the office. She grabbed him by the arm and told him he wasn’t to come into the school making noise like that. She opened the door and dragged him outside and told him to go in the proper way. She was yelling this very loud at him. I stood in the hallway stunned and I looked her in the eye when she came in so she knew I saw her. She likes to say “I was in the navy so my voice carries” with a big smile. Doesn’t convince me of anything I’m sorry. I decided that week I was going to change their school. I was getting reports that my youngest was refusing to potty train (in the potty training classroom) and was constantly hiding. They also told me they weren’t sure if she could speak. She speaks at home just fine and uses the potty just fine. Another red flag that led me to believe she was under distress while at school. 2 weeks later I received a call from dcf which stopped me in my tracks, and I broke down crying immediately. A report had been made that Miss B was choking my daughter. Miss B called and left me a voicemail hoping to intercept the phone call but she was too late. She claims it was a disgruntled staff member. I never did get to see the tapes. But they told me “it happened behind a closet door so you wouldn’t see it anyway”. I was called in to speak with Gail and Miss B and I let them know how I felt. I pulled my girls out of the school and sent them to kid city. Let me tell how they have thrived since they have been there. My youngest was fully potty trained within a week, they had no problems with accidents. She was using new and bigger words and just, blossoming. I don’t know how else to describe it. I felt other parents should know about my experience at little house next door. Miss B always talked to me in a calm voice and called me Beautiful mama, whenever she saw me. She is one way when parents aren’t looking and a sweet talker when they are. I’m sorry. I am a very understanding person. And this all happened 6 months ago. But it’s still effecting me even now. Parents who are researching their children’s school should know.
