What Parents Say
Junior Academy of Victoria Park receives highly polarized reviews. Most parents (7 five-star reviews) praise the curriculum, cleanliness, friendly staff, and educational programs. However, several parents report serious concerns about management's handling of behavioral issues, overcrowded classrooms in the 2-year-old room, lack of parent-teacher collaboration, and inflexible enrollment policies.
Going into our second year here and we love this school for our preschooler. Better than just a day care, quality education modules and knowledgeable teachers. Every one is nice, our kiddo loves the staff and his daily schedule. They arrange for events and chaperoned field trips, fire truck visits and the kids can get creative during holiday themed decorating contests. They utilize an App that makes things pretty convenient, you can see progress and daily pictures, etc. the only complaint -and we know they are currently working on- is they don't support online or card payments/invoicing. Everything is cash or check and manual invoices.
Id give less than one star if I could. My friend was bringing her three year old son to preschool for the first time this morning. After he was there for ONE HOUR, the school called her and told her to come get him and that they could not accept him in their program, because he was too upset. As a school they should be understanding of a kids first time away from his mom in a new place. They offered no advice on what she should do to help him acclimate to new surroundings or people. They went on and on about how they needed to utilize a staff to sit alone with him. How about next time you offer to set up times for him to come and try it out for a couple of hours instead of treating people this way. Especially since they are paying you, and your salary. Personally as a mom who understands a child with separation anxiety, I think this school should be ashamed with how they handled this sweet boy! If you are expecting them to help your child learn to be able to play and interact with other children, then you are looking at the wrong school! shame on you!
Great place to send your children. Both of my daughters have attended this school since they were 1 year olds. My oldest is getting ready to go to kindergarten. Always a very clean environment. Curriculum is a central part of their day but appropriate for each classroom's age group. My children can't wait to go to school everyday.
Awful experience when my 2yr old went there. Owners are money hungry and unsupportive of their staff. Staff was great. Owners told us that our 2 yr old normal child was a danger to himself and others and kicked him out. They charged high fee knowing their location was the a selling point. I recommend doing your homework and looking at all reviews for all schools in the area.
When we first enrolled our child at JAVP, we were very pleased with the flow of the school and what they had to offer academically. The teachers were professional and loving but it seemed as they did not get support from management when it was most needed nor was communication given to parents from management until an end result of an issue. Once our child moved to the 2 year old room, things had changed, with our child's behavior. JAVP is a school that boasts about their "we are about the children" motto and one would think they would work with the parents and the teachers to help with resolutions to a child's needs. This school does anything but that. This class held 18-20 children with one teacher and a teacher assistant. How can adequate care, education and attention to individual needs be given to a child from a teacher with that many children??? There are reviews from 2012 that have been written about issues parents had at this school that have currently happened this year as well From the year our child was enrolled, there have been 4 parents to move their child to a different school as soon as their child entered the 2 year old room. When looking at this school there are positives that stand out that they will win you over with, such as: the excellent curriculum, security of the school, location, and years of experience. This all holds true until you start to learn this daycare is only about numbers and money. All in all this daycare is average for what they promote and is good for children who do well in large groups. There are other daycares with high markings in the area who offer a smaller class size with equivalent curriculum, management who support their teachers and work together with the parents as a team with a tuition fee that is much less. Although JAVP seems to have it all, be aware that sometimes there are negatives behind the initial WOW factor you receive at your initial visit.
