What Parents Say
Reviews are highly polarized with conflicting experiences. Positive reviews praise the organization for educational opportunities, job placement support, and caring staff. However, negative reviews report unprofessional and disrespectful staff, disorganization, poor conditions, and favoritism in the youth program.
Disappointed in SoBro’s conduct. An employee named Irving from this nonprofit organization requested cleaning services through my company and failed to pay the remaining balance for work that was fully completed. Despite clear proof of service and communication, the payment was later disputed without valid reason. It’s unfortunate to see a nonprofit organization behave this way, especially one that claims to support small businesses and community development. I hope they take responsibility and handle these matters with integrity moving forward.
This is Pertaining to the summer youth program providers at this Facility this place is so unprofessional, disorganized, and disrespectful to our children that it’s crazy. The first day they had these kids in the Facility For more then 5 hrs. Screaming at them making them feel like they aren’t worth anything. Like I don’t understand how dare they. My son had to go back and get his job placement and he said it’s worst then the first day he went. He went in at 10am and it’s 2:52pm and he is still not out. All he had to eat was a sandwich for breakfast and that’s it. mind u he was supposed to be out at 2pm. He said they taking kids one by one to get there job placement. Mind u it’s probably likely there are more then 20 kids getting there placement. If I can rate them with No STARS. I would!
Warning to those who think this program is legit. Sorry to inform you but these staff at this program are COMPLETELY unprofessional and lack the helping needs they claim to provide. This program is run down and a gimmick. They train you in a basement and put you in a crowded unconformable work environment. That's not only the worst part the people in this program contradict themselves by stating that they want to help youth and support youth by any means necessary yet play roles of favoritism and only give favorite students connections with jobs and stipends. if i had the option this program is not even close to one star.
the administration are scam artist and the housing coordinator will manipulate every case or act as if he has no access to certain websites or apps so that you don't get the help you need. I found out that he held on to my important paper work (medical records and extremely important doctors letters for my child ) in his office for a month. I am currently seeking legal action against them for GROSS NEGLIGENCE and some other things. Also the assistant Director is a manipulator that will try to build a bond with your child if she sees she cannot get thru to you. She is very street and not at all professional. This shelter ( Samuel Proctor in Harlem) doesn't help anyone...you must do everything on your own. It's pathetic what is happening here.
Based in the reviews that I am reading here, it is obvious that this place run down. There was a time when this place was one of the best in the Bronx. Kirwin was the manager at the time. The staff was friendly and professional back then. I have a great job that pays me well thanks to Sobro. I can imagine the many changes that Sobro went through.
