What Parents Say
Providence Rest is a nursing/rehabilitation facility (not a daycare) in the Bronx, NY. Reviews are overwhelmingly positive, with families praising the compassionate staff, engaging activities program, and high-quality care for elderly residents. One reviewer noted initial challenges that improved over time.
If you want your loved one to be neglected, left filthy, and treated like a burden instead of a human being, especially someone with dementia, then sure, put them in Providence Rest. The level of care here is absolutely disgraceful. Every single nurse we encountered had an attitude problem. Not one showed compassion, patience, or even basic decency. This wasn’t limited to one area either. We experienced this on both the 2nd and 4th floors, so this is clearly a facility-wide issue. Communication was nonexistent. Nobody ever knew anything. Ask a question, and you’d get blank stares, shrugs, or conflicting answers. Yet somehow they’re very organized when it comes to harassing you for money, for truly bad care. The nurses were inadequate, inept, and completely uncaring. My grandfather was constantly left in bed, wearing a hospital gown, instead of being dressed and spending time with other residents. Part of the reason? They repeatedly lost and misplaced his clothing. His clothes were never around—constantly missing, never where they should be, while everyone else seemed to have theirs. This happened over and over again, with zero accountability and no explanation. He was a fall risk (which they knew), and he fell multiple times while in their "care", and we were either never informed or, when we asked what happened, no one knew when or how he fell. That alone is horrifying and completely unacceptable. When we finally discharged him to place him somewhere better, things somehow got even worse. When we went to collect his belongings, there were ZERO clothes left. Not a single item. Staff had no idea what happened to them. They were checking with laundry, and still no response, no follow-up, no explanation. His belongings were simply gone, just like the care and respect he never received. And let’s talk about cleanliness, or lack of it. Roaches are all over the building. The facility is dirty and sticky everywhere, but his room was especially disgusting. Every time we walked in, the floor was sticky, it reeked of urine, and I literally stepped in it. The smell stayed in my shoes for days. That is beyond negligent, it’s inhumane. This place should be shut down. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE facility. If I could give negative stars, I would. Do yourself and your loved one a favor and stay far away from Providence Rest.
Things started off a little off when we first brought my mom to this nursing home for rehab, but I’m happy to say that things have really improved. The staff, nurses, and administrators have been friendly, helpful, and much more attentive as time has gone on. The therapists, in particular, have been amazing. My mom truly enjoys working with them and always talks about how kindly they treat her and how patient they are during her sessions. Their encouragement and professionalism have made a difference in her progress and comfort. Overall, we’re feeling much more at ease now, and I’m grateful for the positive changes and the care my mom is receiving.
My experience at Providence Rest arch care was more than exceptional. I would recommend this facility to anyone for Rehab and long-term care. My mother is here and she is thriving and quite happy. I don’t think she could get better quality care. She participates in all activities and is taken care of in a kind, loving and polite way. She loves the music, the dancing and all the activities and she goes to all of them. Even though she has dementia, she is blessed to be a happy person that doesn’t always remember, but that’s OK. God bless amen.
It is with enthusiasm that I highly recommend ArchCare at Providence Rest! My mom has always given our family the best, and she deserves the best. The decision to place a parent/loved one in a nursing home/rehab is not made lightly. I toured Providence with a friend who is a health care professional and spoke well of the facility. She was correct! Clinically, the teams work together and respond to family. The setting is gorgeous and tranquil. The unexpected and MOST important joy is that there is love and care in the air here. On my mom’s first day, I sat in the chapel and cried. A nun saw me and told me don’t worry, Providence Rest would be part of her family now. A big shout out to Michelle and the Recreation crew. Michelle is also the Director of Guest Experience which speaks volumes of the attention to detail. The qualified staff of 3P…Mariam, Connie, Barbara, the supervisors, Dr. Taparia and all of the team make it happen daily. The front desk crew share a smile and cleanliness is evident throughout. The staff behind the scenes are getting it done! If you are faced with the decision of sub-acute or long term care, ArchCare at Providence Rest is excellent!
NOT DEMENTIA FRIENDLY!! This is the worst nursing/rehabilitation center in the Bronx, they sell it to you as a holy place and caring nursing home. Nothing is holy about having to change your loved one that hasn’t been changed in multiple hours and can’t stand up for themselves. Me and family would have to check in as early as 4am to change our loved one who hasn’t been changed in multiple hours. If it wasn’t for family, our loved one would have missed many meals and would have been treated even MORE poorly than they were already treated by this unholy place. I have overheard alert patients threatening other dementia patients, disrespectful staff and mishandling patients many times. Some of these people are just in it for the $$$, there is maybe 1-2 good passionate nurses/staff. But other than that the rest need to find a new field or start school all over again. Our loved one only lasted 2 weeks there before having to go to hospital because of the poor care this place gave. I can’t blame all staff because there are good people but this place needs to be investigated because no one should ever have to deal with the carelessness this place has.
