Overall experience appears to vary significantly by individual case.
I’m currently at this shelter been here going on 2 months is not as bad as people say . Is not infested , they do serve 3 meals a day they aren’t the greatest but hey at least they feed people . Only thing is the showers are outside your room but they always clean , is very quiet, my room is huge the staff are super friendly!!! And my caseworker is okay as well !!! And they don’t provide a microwave either you can bring your own . Other than that this is the cleanest shelter I’ve been in !! I have no complaints.
This shelter is unsanitary and needs renovation. I came here with my 3 month old and the air was stuffy when I came into my room and it was not a crib there until I asked if there was a crib for my 3 month old. She caught a cold and bacteria because there was no heat and the place is overall nasty. I had to leave two days later after complaining and asking for a transfer from my case worker, she wouldn’t give me one after I explained to her why. There is no cooking facility and the bathrooms has to be shared with about 7 other strangers. This place needs to be shut down.
If you left your home because of domestic violence, and your bad luck brought you to this shelter, be advised that you will face more violence than what you left!! I've lived one year in this shelter 07/2017-08/2018, and it's been the worst period of my life ever. We're in 2021 now and still I can't forget! The worst treatment you can imagine by a staff who intentionally try to bring you down and make you feel bad. I had to seek psychotherapy to overcome the stress they caused me. For example: They did fire drills at 6:00 am!! and if we didn't get out of our rooms, a security man opened the room on women while sleeping!! When I went to the cafeteria a minute later than the time determined for meals, they refused to give me meals, and my kids and I stayed hungry to the next meal time! I got treated really badly by the case worker who felt superior to me although I have a Master's degree! A security guard refused to let me in to the building because my kids were in the daycare and said "wait till your kids come" and I had to wait two hours in the street!! A security guard opened my room at mid-night to check if the number of my kids is correct, although they checked when they signed us in. Imagine you wake up to see a person in the middle of your room at mid-night!! A security guard refused to bring the elevator down to the basement while I had thrombosis in my leg and I couldn't climb the stairs!! No services what so ever! No help with housing. For a year, I got no help, and after I left to another shelter, I got an apartment just three months later!! May God give these people what they deserve as much as they hurt me and my kids!!!
Only giving this place one star because it is clean, and their services with Camelot is good. But besides that, the "security" guards are racist. They don't like Hispanic or white people, the case worker they have is racist. There is MAYBE a handful of staff that are nice, the rest are rude and disrespectful.
I am a current resident of this shelter this is the worst shelter ever this shelter is not clean no one takes COVID 19 precautions I have been n this shelter two years the staff here is very racist they only help people of there own race hardly nobody wears mask we have to share bathroom and showers which are always dirty. There is mold in the basement and the water seems contaminated this building is old and needs to be shut down
