My daughter has been at ONCDC for six months now, so I feel like we’ve got a lay of the land at this point. At first glance the place felt overwhelming and almost chaotic, at least that was my experience. It is child-led, which appealed to me but also left me with questions as to the levels of containment, safety, and guidance my child might be able to find and lean on. As the days and weeks unfolded, I fell in love. Her transition mid-school-year from a previous preschool was surprisingly seamless, and I attribute that to the sensitivity and full presence of her caregivers at ON. They are impeccably trained to be attachment figures and foster security with each child in a way that continues to be beyond my comprehension. There is a fluidity to their operation as a team in every moment, and they demonstrate the communication skills and mindfulness necessary to pull that off. I can’t tell you how relieved I am—it is a full body gratitude—to take my child there each day and know that she will be received with love, tenderness, and genuine connection no matter what her or my state happens to be. It’s a special place and community that I’m thankful we found our way to!

We are so grateful to Our Neighborhood for the loving, thoughtful, and extremely competent care they provide for our daughter. She has been there since she was six months old and we could not be happier. The staff thinks carefully about how to nurture young children's development and they are constantly fostering continued learning among the staff and sharing findings and ideas with parents. And the teachers are the warmest, most loving people you can imagine. The center has a strong philosophical approach and, even more importantly, a loving basis for all they do.

Our daughter has been at ONCDC for about 2.5 years and we absolutely love it! They take great care of her, and their approach to early learning is thoughtful and executed well. Our daughter has learned so much from her experience at this school.

RIP OFF!!! They are one of the most expensive day care centers in Charlottesville and don't even provide lunch. There is no kitchen so you must bring food that can stay cold in a lunch bag. They tend to take more days off then any other center (but you still pay full price) You can come in the morning with your hands full and most of the teachers wil just look at you and never offer to help. If you have to bring your child in past 9 am getting ready to catch grief or a dirty look. It seems to me they act like they are doing you a favor and they forget that we are paying them to do this. My advice there are plenty of good centers in this area for a lower price and provide lunch. Best of luck

BEWARE!! This daycare has had six violations out of ten inspections since 2011. Check out the Department of Social Services website to view violations including improper TB screenings, failure to complete background checks before employment, and improper diapering procedures. This place is an obstacle course of disasters waiting to happen. Don't buy the company line about children doing for themselves. And, NAEYC, shame on you for certifying them!
