La Petite Academy - Dumfries

We have been part of La Petite Academy for three years, and during that time we’ve seen the center grow and improve—especially since the transition to new leadership. The new leadership team has made a noticeable impact on communication, day-to-day operations, and overall support for both families and staff. They are consistently responsive to suggestions, which has helped create a more positive and collaborative environment. The teachers are caring and patient, and many of the lead teachers have a long track record with the center, which brings a real sense of stability. Our children have benefited from the consistency in the classroom and the genuine attention the staff provides each day. The live camera feed is a great feature and offers peace of mind, especially during transitions to new classrooms. We also appreciate the regular updates and pictures throughout the day—they’re a nice way to stay connected with what our children are learning and doing. Overall, our experience has been very positive. We’ve seen steady improvements over the years, and we continue to feel confident in the care, communication, and leadership at La Petite Academy.

If you’re looking for sincere care of your children La petite is definitely the place to go. My daughter has been enrolled here since May 2025 and she absolutely loves the school and all of the staff. The teachers are amazing and are definitely on top of the children and their daily activities. The learning programs are amazing and very interactive. My daughter has definitely increased her knowledge since first being enrolled and she has another fun fact for me each afternoon when I pick her up based off of what they learned or did that day. They also have constant camera access to any classroom that my daughter is in so I can watch her play and go about her day. They also are constantly posting updates of when my daughter naps or goes potty or they send pictures of her and her classmates doing various activities throughout the day. Ms. Toni and Ms. Tracey (and all of the teachers) are awesome and my daughter can’t leave for the day without hugging every one of them. My daughter enrolled when Ms. Nychelle had first taken over the director position and since my daughter has been attending she has been involved in numerous activities. They offer family friendly functions and they have events for the kids during the day. The day care has been nothing but amazing in every aspect. They are on top of incidents, accidents and all day to day activities and I know when I drop my daughter off each morning she’s taken care of and I don’t have to worry about anything because she is in more than capable hands. La Petite is an amazing daycare, from the staff to the facility and everything in between. If you’re looking for solid care and great people watching your child I wouldn’t recommend anywhere else in the area!

My children have been at LP Dumfries for over 5 years. During this time, we had one center director due to retirement in summer 2024. Any reviews after this period reflect the previous management. The current management team is young, refreshing, and dedicated. They have implemented new upgrades within the center, including newly paved parking lot. Regarding the teachers and curriculum: Are they up to par and aligned with the standards required by PWC. You can always consult with the teachers, the director and staff to meet your child's needs The babies/infants program is excellent. Ms. Mimi is wonderful — my daughter adores her, even though she graduated years ago and she is now in Pre-K2 with Ms. Traci who is fantastic. The children love and respect her! All the staff friendly and welcoming!

We had a terrible experience with La Petite Academy in Dumfries. My son was left crying for two straight hours without anyone comforting him. I called, texted, and even spoke with the leader, Nychelle, multiple times — every time I was told, “We’ll check on him,” but nothing was done. During this time, the teachers served lunch and had all the other kids sitting at the table, while my son was left crying on the ground. when they did an art activity, they put gowns on every other child but left my son crying on the floor, completely ignored. The staff acted as if he didn’t even exist — no effort to calm him, comfort him, or include him. He was in the toddlers class with teacher Ashley Roundtree, who claimed that this amount of crying was “normal for his age.” I completely disagree — crying nonstop for two hours is not normal. When I raised concerns, she told me they don’t provide one-on-one attention because there are 9+ students in the class. I never asked for one-on-one attention — I just expected someone to show basic care and compassion for a crying child. The entire experience felt cold and careless. I ultimately unenrolled my son, and he is now thriving in another school where he is surrounded by genuine care and kindness. I would not recommend La Petite Academy in Dumfries to any parent who wants their child to feel loved, safe, and supported.

This is our third year with Petite Academy of Dumfries. In the last year there was a complete turnover of leadership staff, and to say we are thrilled with them would be an understatement. Director Nychelle and AD Sharlay could not be more attentive, organized, helpful and friendly if they tried! Our children have loved the teachers there - shout out to Ms. Toni, Ms. Tracey, and Ms. Jasmine! The facility is clean, the curriculum is stimulating, the meals are balanced and nutritious, and family engagement/communication is a definite priority. As a bonus, they have an app with livestream cameras for whichever classroom your child is in, offering reassurance and total transparency at all times. The tuition is reasonable while remaining competitive with the other area preschools. I am extremely surprised to see any negative reviews at all, especially since last year’s overhaul. As with anything, one person‘s opinion is just that, so I would highly recommend checking PA out yourself if you are interested - you will definitely be impressed!
