What Parents Say
Appletree Academy receives polarized reviews with strong opinions on both sides. Positive reviews praise caring teachers, child development, communication, and on-site cameras, while negative reviews cite serious concerns about the owner's treatment of parents (particularly those using workforce subsidies), staff safety practices, and allegations of rough handling of infants and toddlers.
If I could give them zero stars I would! I had my 3 month old baby here for only a few weeks and it was a horrible experience. It started off fine, but eventually got worse. My baby gets therapy through ECI for feeding needs, and all licensed daycare centers must let children be seen by a therapist if there is a medical need for it. I verified this through a child care licensing worker. The director, Terri Klein refused to let the therapist see my daughter. She was also extremely rude and defensive when I asked her about the therapist going to visit. From there on out, Terri would not interact with me, my husband, or my daughter at all during drop off and pick up and she refused to look at or acknowledge me and the vibe just felt very off like my daughter and I were unwelcome. I thought that was very weird, because as someone who works with children myself, I would never treat a child’s parent like this no matter the circumstances. They also have an issue with your baby being due for a bottle right around drop off time. I know it can get busy but if a baby is due to eat, then it’s their JOB to feed them and not complain about it. They also poked a bigger hole in one of my babies bottle nipples without my permission. Like I mentioned earlier, my daughter has some feeding issues so this really upset me that they did this. I only noticed because when feeding my baby one day she kept choking every few seconds and I happened to check the nipples and it was a lot bigger than her other ones. It made me furious that my baby had to go through choking like that at daycare possibly multiple times. I’m not sure how the other rooms are at this daycare, but I would definitely not recommend sending a young child here who can’t speak and tell you about their day. We’re so glad we were able to get my baby into a daycare that has a lovely and respectful staff, and actually shows they care about the children and their needs instead of making the parents feel like it’s a burden!
My child was in the infant class for 5 months. The teachers weren’t bad but a lot of them wouldn’t stick around long which I didn’t like. I also don’t like that the place wasn’t very safe. Anyone can walk in. The worst part for me though was honestly the owner. She made me feel like my child was unwanted because we use workforce. She specifically told me that she makes less money off of workforce kids and it’s unfair to the teachers if I bring my child to daycare if I’m off for the day. As a full time student I was very busy and use any break that I had to get things done at home. I feel like she made a lot of inappropriate comments because of me using workforce. She said that she wanted to get rid of anyone who uses it so if you’re going to use it I’d avoid going there. Overall the daycare wasn’t awful and my child was taken care of but I’m glad we left that negative environment.
I had to make this post as I have been reading negative accusations about this facility. I wanted to offer my honest opinion and support for this school. My daughter has been here for 3 years. We love this place!! When she was 18 months we took her out and placed her in one of the most expensive and prestigious schools in the city. We thought it would be better for her but we were wrong. After that bad experience we put her back at Appletree. This place has cameras. Which was important for us as we can watch her throughout the day, and nowadays it’s rare to find cameras. We watch her jumping, eating, reading and playing. When she couldn’t talk yet the cameras were great to know what was going on. I ask her everyday now if she loves school and if she wants to go back and she says yes. If we had a complaint, I call Terri, the owner, and she handles it. My daughter has never been bitten or injured or came home with a weird bruise. We are happy and comfortable with sending her here everyday. Which is important for us to have a peace of mind at work. No place is perfect, and nobody is perfect but I do wholeheartedly recommend this place, and I do recommend it to my family, friends and coworkers, several of whom send their kids here.
My son is in the 18 M- 2 YO class. His teacher Jessica is caring inside and outside of the classroom. I’ve witnessed her help parents who have their hands full in the parking lot with kids not in her classroom even before she clocks in. She’s thoughtful and caring as well as a good communicator. My son is learning new words and concepts each day. I feel at ease dropping him off knowing he’s well taken care of.
DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE! I had the worst experience ever here with my child. He would come back with bruises and welts. I was constantly signing documents because he “fell”. I get it kids fall and hurt themselves but this was an every other day ordeal. One day I politely asked the teacher I’m his classroom “why” he was constantly getting hurt. The owner did not appreciate that I asked that and literally yelled at me in front of another parent the following day when I was picking up my son. She went crazy on me and told me I had no right to ask why my son is always getting hurt. That same day she also decided to inform me that my child had called off the diaper changing table and that it was my 14 month old sons fault. I was so upset. There was an old lady that used to watch over my son in the class and she would be so rough towards all the children. I asked to see footage and she wouldn’t allow me to. My son once came back with a bug in his diaper and when I informed the owner she stated it was my fault. The owner is honestly evil and malicious. She has no respect for the children or parents that she cares for. Please do not send your child here.
