This is a great place for children! Our daughter absolutely loves attending their before/after and summer programs. For the summer program, they bring the fun to the club grounds and this summer they will be taking field trips. The staff is also great to interact with. They are great with communicating to parents, friendly when interacting with parents and seem to be well loved amongst the community. Mrs. Ella is a jewel at this place and helps the kids with whatever she can. Mr. Purnell, Mr. Brandon and the other staff are great as well. It’s welcoming to see that the morale and warm feeling still exists within this club from when my brother attended in the 00’s. You can’t go wrong with your child attending this club.

I grew up coming here from 7-13 and there’s a lot of fun moments to be had, but the kids get away with physical assault, bullying, racism (don’t bring your kid here if their white, they will not be liked here) and the councilors don’t take much of anything seriously. Like kids would throw stuff at my head (this is ONE example of a “million”) and a councilor would just go, “Oh, don’t do that” … and the kids would never listen… it’s such a toxic place for some kids. Depends on who becomes the target and if you aren’t wanted at home, how are you supposed to have the foundation to defend yourself at a place like this, and so it becomes an unhealthy cycle. I don’t recommend this place .

My grandson attended this location for the first time for basketball teams 9-10 age group and it was awesome for him. His coach was Coach Pillot and this guy is greatly phenomenal with the boys in teaching them fundamentals of basketball and playing team sport. I hope to see Coach Pillot again next summer he is a gem with positive and encouraging coach mentoring. My grandson is looking forward to next summer. We were impressed with Coach Pillot knowledge as well as his enthusiasm of basketball and dealing with the children. Impressive indeed keeping his cool when all others are reactive. However I would encourage that a first aid person is available during basketball games and well equipped with the necessities of first aid in taking care of the players. Or train the coaches in first aid and equipped them with first aid bags that have cold and hot compresses as well as other needed first-aid items. Also suggest a behavior agreement with parents of not becoming confrontational or bleacher coaching that encourage players harming other players..not cool. As adults we all should be setting examples of how to be proactive not reactive and some parents and coach for Butler fell short in doing so. Other then that the summer basketball was great for my grandson and Coach Pillot left a positive influence on my grandson and I think others including their parents will agree with me.. well done. Boys & Girls Club of America is a great place for children keep up the great work you all do.
