When I first found out, I was going to umom. I got really scared because of the reviews but once I went there, I realized how awesome it really is. The rooms are clean. The food is good. The staff are amazing and because of my caseworker Christie Q. I felt supported I didn’t feel alone and me and my son finally found a home as long as you do what needs to be done and follow the rules. The possibilities are endless. Umom gave us a chance and forever I will be grateful to them.

DON'T COME HERE UNLESS U WANNA BE LIED TO ABOUT THEM HELPING U GET OUT OF THAT PLACE OR KICKED OUT. They will act like they want to help but in reality they want to get a grant to supposedly help you but as soon as it comes to ur move out day, they will find anything to kick you out and all ur resources will be gone, its highly likely they use ur grant they get from the state for their personal use. they do not care about ur feelings and will most definitely kick you out for the littlest issue. i repeat. DO. NOT. COME. TO. UMOM. NEW. DAY. CENTER. they have u sign in and out everytime u come in or leave and u have a curfew 12-6am they will kick u out if u fail to show up the next day after 3 times. | Staff Conduct | Staff are punitive and treat residents poorly, like "jail inmates." favoritism towards certain residents were made, and some staff are nasty and rude especially toward residents with special needs children. staffs performance of poor behavior. staff make serious, negative assumptions about clients without proper verification, which can lead to further trauma and crisis (e.g., being accused of "abandoning the program"). There are reports of being unable to access the facility when staff are present, or that the center's entry/closing times are strictly enforced to the detriment of families seeking help. | Case Management | Case workers are unreliable, sometimes failing to show up for scheduled meetings or not performing their duties. especially when it comes to emailing you back. director and board members do not seem to respond to negative feedback, calls, or emails, and that there is a general lack of initiative and accountability among staff. | Facility Conditions | The premises is filthy. Residents who ask for repairs are lied to about fixes being made. they say they will put a work order in and never do. | Food Quality | The food served is sometimes old or raw, potentially leading to illness (diarrhea). it does not look edible at all and will make u sick. | Resident Behavior & Safety | There are claims of harassment by certain residents who act like "bullies," and that the mother of these children does not control them. staff will watch parents beat their kids in the lobby and not do anything or there will be babies with poopy diapers that havent been changed for who knows how long. | Rule Enforcement | Marijuana is reportedly treated as a serious drug violation. but staff members will carry devices on their person and use it in the lobby. | Discharge Process | Staff lie and create scenes when kicking people out, sometimes resulting in police involvement. Residents may be forced out into the heat during the day and they do not care AT ALL. | Intrusion of Privacy | Staff will go through residents' belongings, even their dirty laundry and try to get u for any thing they can find. They will even unlock ur door with a key while u aren't home and look through ur things. | General Safety | Complaints about limited support for those with complex needs, and a failure to help clients work through issues like heat exhaustion, anxiety, and being stalked while still homeless. Some resident reviews describe feeling that the center is located in an area with high external risk, with one claiming to be in the "midst of drug feens." • Internal Safety Concerns: Past legal cases have revealed security incidents. For example, a case regarding a former employee involved a shooting on campus by a stalker, which resulted in a lawsuit alleging that the organization breached its duty to provide a safe and secure place of work. • Unsafe/Unhealthy Conditions: Some negative reviews mention a general feeling of being in "unsafe and unhealthy conditions" while at the facility. listen to me when i tell u dont come here.

I lived here for about 3 to 4 months 2016 never had any of the problems that are mentioned in the reviews however, they did have water bugs that somehow got in the room, but I never had a problem with the air conditioning. The rules were your children had to be in. They also had random drug testing so you were not allowed to do drugs at all. My experience was a good one so I don’t know where these people are talking about cockroaches, etc., but maybe the management has changed because they were very helpful to me with my two grandchildren.

Unfortunately, this is my 2nd time coming through. 1st time was OK. Food was not go bad, good portions with activities for kids at dinner in dining hall. Staff is a little more friendly. Now, food portions are a bit much, but it's something that is when it's edible. And these illegal room searches going into rooms and people's belongings while not present. The only time staff should do that is when there is reasonable cause and not because a person is homeless or their race. Should be if you were seen or reported and you are present. But their ate 2 staff members that are going into rooms searching. And now they brought over the women from across the street. Now we can't do laundry they go in, sit, and hang out, no room for people. Can't go to Dog Park. They ate on the benches hanging out with no pets. Same with the smoking area. They walk around smelling of boos. The way they talk and move can tell they ate intoxicated. This is supposed to be family shelter people with kids. I know everyone needs some help but needs to want the help. Not continue to be the way they are, walking around people's kids dressed like hootchies intoxicated.
