What Parents Say
St. Marks Child Development Center receives overwhelmingly positive feedback for its caring staff, engaging curriculum, clean facilities, and child development outcomes. However, some parents report significant concerns about director Leah Steadman's professionalism, including strict payment policies, poor communication, and unprofessional conduct.
Hands down best daycare! My kids (3.5 and 18 months) have thrived here! It's more than a daycare - the teachers and staff are like family, and my kids love them as such. St Marks is such a hidden gem - they plan fun activities for the kids, they have engaging curriculum and lots of outside play time. I couldn't recommend this daycare more.
I absolutely love this center and staff, they are truly amazing. I was so scared to leave my 3 month old baby and go back to work but, Leah and staff made my transition easy as a new mom. Over communicating and extremely accommodating, the best I’ve seen! I’ve referred people here and will continue! Stand up job on how this center is being run, even in the midst of a pandemic.
Daycare is wonderful, my child is learning a lot so there’s no issue there! On the other hand, the director, Leah.. needs another gig. Unprofessional to say the least! She literally made my daughter miss the breakfast cut off time & told me no she couldn’t eat! I had to take my daughter to Bojangles & drop her back off! What 3 year old at the time can go hours without eating after first waking up? When it was her fault she missed the cut off time! Like seriously, if my daughter wasn’t learning as much I’d definitely take her out of this daycare just solely based off of the director.
This is one of the best childcare facilities in the city! This was the first childcare center we put our daughter in after being in a home daycare for 2 years and we loved it. This has been around for a long time, as I went here 25 years ago and it was great facility then. The teachers and director are professional, caring, and respectful. All the teachers know all of the kids names in all the classes. The daycare is very clean, the doors are always locked, & there are age appropriate rooms and activities. No matter the time of day you visit, there is always order and the kids are all happy and smiling. Ms. Sheila(first teacher), Ms. Mecka (last teacher), & Ms.Leah (director) are great! The book program was amazing and the amount of knowledge our daughter learned was awesome. The only reason that we had to take her out was because my job moved out of state. If I ever got another job in Charlotte, I would put her back in St Marks in a heartbeat. I don't usually write reviews, but I highly recommend this child care facility if you are looking for a QUALITY, affordable, and a place where you won't have to worry about your child!
Let me start by sharing that the staff (instructors) here are great. The staff is very caring and really invested in the well being of the students. However the management, Leah Steadman, is trash. Numerous times there were security issues at the center. Steadman consistently recreated payment deadlines, sometimes midweek with little notice, and threatened parents that their child would not be allowed to continue unless you made a payment midweek-- don't know many parents who get paid on a Wednesday. The lack of communication at the center towards parents is appalling. Events are poorly thrown together, if they aren't canceled at the last moment. but I would say the lack of professionalism when I asked for my daughters attendance record is the most egregious. Steadman told me that my daughter was in attendance at the center every day that is was open (see earlier about their random closings!). When I told her that for a fact my daughter was not, Steadman rudely told me that she didnt have time to honor my request, and that maybe I needed to find another place for my daughter. My daughter has been with the center since she was 6 months old. Steadman than proceeded to remove my daughter from the program. Steadman is ghetto. Her leadership is comical. And what makes it worse is we referred several families to this center.
