Journey to Bethlehem Christmas program. I see real inspiration and dedication here.
I moved to KC around 2 years ago and had been searching for a new church home since then - I discovered Second through my friend Kristin, one of the pastors there. I've been attending for a couple months now, and enjoy the thoughtful sermons, mix of traditional/modern music, and the people I've met. I have been to several small group meetings and enjoyed those as well. Second does a great job of making new people feel at home without overwhelming them, and is a great place for those looking to connect to God.
Second provides a welcoming, inclusive space for all doubting, questioning, and curious people. Paul and Kristin possess amazing leadership skills, and their sermons are thoughtfully created and shared; they never tell you what to think, rather, encourage you what to think about. The messages of the church center around topics relevant to daily life, including mental health, issues that divide families, social justice issues, and, most recently, God in cinema. I have learned so much while attending Second, and I feel like a valued individual here.
A misguided Progressive liberal “church”. I’ve known some of the people and pastors here for decades. While they seem to hold noble causes they also actively promote the sort of policies cause the social problems they say they stand against. For example, I know one pastor was participating in protests against a local company that made computer chips because those computer chips were used in bombs. I personally see no problem with tools such as weapons and see the scriptures and words of Christ both commanding disciples to purchase swords and see Romans 13 that God gives government this corporeal authority. So, protesting for people to lose their jobs is what I really saw in his actions. Also, this misguided man was then also publicly advocating for the politicians using those bombs. He was using his position to promote people who have caused most of the global armed conflicts in the past decade. He was promoting the peoples whose policies have increased the flow of drugs and drug problem in the US, caused the homelessness, and caused multiple refugee crisis. As such, they lack wisdom to do true good preferring the things that make them look and feel good among men and society.
Open and affirming church with a long and enduring history of loving Christ and others.
