This open, welcoming, and inclusive church is a Good-Baptist church, which I say is the opposite of Southern Baptists. For example, they have a Black female pastor. They are a mixed congregation in several ways: race, generations, foreign-born/US born, LGBTQIA/straight, etc. They are missions focused and have done short term mission trips to Nicaragua in support of AMOS Health and Hope medical services. The congregation is relatively small compared to the size of their building. They have an early childhood learning center on the lower level. Every year before Christmas they provide a wonderful outdoor Live-nativity Story that is narrated on a CD while you drive through it. It is a fun way to celebrate and hear the Christmas story.
This church brings the best of KC Musicians in once a month beginning in September. When I say the best, they are exactly that. This September, we listened to 100 minutes of Charles Williams. His trio is phenomenal. It is free. They only ask for a love offering. Next events are 10/19, and 11/22. Both on Sundays at 6pm. See you there.
This church has amazing diversity, welcoming immigrants, those of many races, LGBTQ+, you name it! Music ranges from classic hymns and pipe organ to praise songs and even regular jazz vespers. ANYONE can find a place here! It's very obvious Christ has!
As a visitor from out of state I was amazed to be accepted with such compassion. It was Pentacost Sunday and Rev Deza prayed with people individually. The prayer she whispered to me is still resonating in my heart. If you want to experience the love of our Creator here's the place to go. 💕
A good dose of disillusionment at our previous church (and being invited to leave) led us down the street to FBCKC. It was just the change we needed - a more liturgical worship, that MAGNIFICENT pipe organ, the openness and welcoming to all - our "Beloved Community" isn't perfect, but it gets the important things right.
