What Parents Say
Riverview Baptist Church in Woodbridge, Virginia has highly polarized reviews. Most reviewers praise the welcoming atmosphere, biblical teaching, and sense of community, while a detailed negative review raises serious concerns about leadership conduct, financial management, safety issues, and legal matters.
The community along with several prior and current members have shared concerns regarding Riverview Baptist Church improprieties, noting that the pastor's wife is an overzealous pianist who doesn't get along with other, committing to acts of threatening natures and egregious lies. The church has fewer than 15 members, raising concerns about the pastor's financial management, particularly since he doesn't have Financial sustainment outside of the church. There are also concerns about the pastor allowing his Doberman Pinscher to roam freely in the church, disregarding guidelines, and Respect to God‘s holiness and potentially creating safety issues. The deacons seem to follow the pastor's every lead, and some individuals are being paid for work done at the church, therefore leading to suspicions of financial impropriety, this is mainly due to friendships aligned outside of the Christian realm of the church. It was suggested by a member on the financial committee that more financial sessions should occur due to concerns about how money was being distributed or spent. It was not permitted. It’s a no-no to question the financial aspects of Tim Brown’s management of the churches finances. A lady was threatened with a Doberman Pinscher for escorting children through the church parking lot, a shortcut to an adjacent school. There are reviews about the situation as well. Along with reviews discussing hypocrites, it’s unfortunate. Also, there has been issues, stated by the pastor himself that people have left because of improprieties by one of the deacons that was of a relational issue that a deacon should never be involved with where a church member would be uncomfortable; the member and his wife departed the church! A wonderful young couple challenged by this illicit unfortunate behavior of one of these churches deacons. As stated in a previous review, people in the community walked through the church parking lot to prevent children from having to walk in the street and be safe, but Tim Brown and his wife didn’t want anyone walking through their parking lot because they said it damaged the parking lot. The church responded by installing fences, restricting access. This particular church has been in the community for a long time and not until this new leadership arrived. has such efforts of placing fences up and preventing the community from safely transiting through the area to walk to school every day. It’s unfortunate, READ the review. Some members have left due to concerns about leadership, Pastor Tim Brown is facing legal action, with a court date schedule for being combative and physically threatening a member. There are concerns about how disagreements are handled, including trespassing notices to individuals who disagree with his leadership. There are several documented instances where he has placed trespassing on individuals. Primarily for retaliation, which is an egregious attempt in violating the law with this behavior is quite Unfortunate. "The SBC Southern Baptist committee had offered financial support to Riverview Baptist Church several years ago, but Pastor Tim Brown didn't disclose this to the congregation. It seems he led members to believe the church was in a more dire financial situation than it actually was, and the committee feels we were left in the dark. Yes, the church had financial issues in the past and was in financial distress however, it all could’ve been eliminated if the pastor Tim Brown had told the truth that the SBC would have provided the support that could’ve sustain the churches finances , It appeared Pastor Brown wanted to maintain control and didn't want their new leadership or help. Therefore, without submitting to their requirements for support, he was at 100% abilities to do as he pleased.
Great church. The pastor and his wife are such nice and loving people. I love this church. May God's grace and blessings be with this church.
A wonderful, Bible believing, Bible preaching church. The people are so loving and kind. Weekly Services: Sunday morning (Bible Study at 9:25 A.M. & Worship Service at 10:30 A.M.), and Wednesday evening (at 6:30 P.M.). The Pastor preaches God’s word from the King James Version (KJV) Bible. A church that truly cares about people and loves to serve the Lord! Small church but it feels like a family. 100% Recommend.
This is a great church. Pastor Mike definitely has the Baptist preacher presence, but it is in no way off-putting. The worship songs range from old school to contemporary, which help to enhance the sermon messages each week. Everyone that my husband and I've met is warm and inviting and you very quickly feel right at home. For the time that we're living here in the area, this is definitely our church.
I visited from Southwest Baptist Church Spanish Mission in San Diego, Ca. Special thanks to Sister Dawn for her hospitality, and Sister Barbara for her kindness and wisdom during Bible Study. The Music Ministry Praised God and most importantly, pastor Faulkner's message was BIBLICAL, well explained, and to the point; OBEY GOD. Gracias, Hna Faye
