What Parents Say
Loch Meadow Kindergarten receives consistently excellent feedback from parents who praise the warm, welcoming environment and individualized attention to each child's needs. Parents highlight the caring and experienced teachers, emphasis on creativity and independence, and strong communication. Multiple families report their children were happy to attend and experienced significant growth during their time at the school.
Loch-Meadow is the most wonderful place for your child to start their school experience. Over the last four years we have had two children enrolled in this school. There is excellent communication from the teachers about what goes on every day. This school focuses on each child as an individual and encourages independence, creativity, socialization, and fun while learning! It is a wonderful feeling to walk into drop off each day and have all the teachers and staff greet you with a smile and joyfully welcome your child to school. We are very lucky to have this school in our community!
Loch Meadow was one of our favorite things about living in Norfolk! The teachers are phenomenal- they are loving and compassionate, and encourage your little person to be independent. My children truly loved going to school every morning and enjoyed experiencing art, music and p.e. weekly. The families here are wonderful and the director keeps the school running perfectly! If you're looking for a preschool that will really start your child off on the right foot, this is it!
Our son attended Loch Meadow Kindergarten for one year. He always looked forward to school, came home happy, and some of his earliest words were his teachers' names. We had a great experience at the school and highly recommend it. The teachers are wonderful and many of them have a long tenure.
Is there a word limit on these things? Because buckle up— there are not enough words (or stars) to express how much I love this school. I’ve had three (very different) kids enrolled here over the past 5 years at all of the class levels, and it is absolutely not an exaggeration to say that it has been the most consistently positive and critically formative experience our family has shared since we moved to Norfolk. When we moved here 5 years ago, I was in the height of anxiety about my second son, who had just been diagnosed with a profound neurological speech disorder and (I was told) may never be able to talk. He was also cripplingly shy, and the idea of sending him to school, while necessary for his socialization, was terrifying for both of us. LMK is a neighborhood generational institution that was recommended to me by multiple friends, but its proximity to our home and small school feel are what finally convinced me to register my son for the 3 day class. The first day we walked in, I felt an instant sense of relief— the warmth and acceptance of this community is impossible to ignore, but it was the earnestness and authenticity with which his teachers worked to understand and meet his communication needs that were the game changer. That year, I watched my son grow in confidence in a school family that actively strived to make him feel safe, loved, and valued. Over the next three years, I watched his social confidence explode, facilitated by a faculty that took the care to educate themselves about his unique communication need, but never treated it like a limitation to his potential. When it came time to consider his next steps (sadly LMK only goes to Kindergarten), all of his teachers were instrumental to the process, and they certainly went above and beyond to advocate for him and support our family through the stress. When it came time to leave LMK, I was the parent in the room at the Kindergarten graduation ceremony who burst into tears watching my 6-year old stand alone in front of a microphone in a crowded auditorium and clearly articulate 14 words that will be forever imprinted on my heart (“What can we do to pass the time? I know- let’s sing some songs!”). And today, in his first year at a new school, my now very verbal son is absolutely thriving— socially, academically, emotionally— LMK prepared him for it all, and I can say is I am grateful to have two more kids in the LMK pipeline, because I’m not ready to say goodbye for good just yet. Seriously, if you are looking for a place that will love and nurture your littles like a home, and educate them in a purposeful, mission-driven, play-based, researched-backed environment that prioritizes the whole child above and beyond just academic growth, this is it. If you are looking for that magical feeling you rarely get as a parent knowing that your child is safe and loved and happy, this is it. If you are spread to your limit with the stress of modern parenting and looking for a place that you never feel judged for rolling in hot in your pajamas, or your daughter pocketing every rock on the playground, or your other daughter’s new “adorable” foot-stamping habit, this is it. As an educator myself, I’ve taught in a lot of different school environments and seen first hand the challenges faced by today’s schools and the students they serve. If you’re looking for a magical unicorn, even just for a few years—look no further— this is it.
Excellent pre school. My son went there for 3 years. Ms Cherry was an outstanding teacher. Highly recommend her. My son still talks about her 15 years later!!!
