What Parents Say
Lighthouse Academy receives overwhelmingly positive feedback from most parents, with praise for dedicated, experienced teachers and strong director leadership. However, two detailed negative reviews cite serious concerns including inadequate staff training, hygiene issues, and documentation falsification in the infant room.
EDIT AS OF 2/7/24- The owner, Marcus Brooks, reached out to our family personally and immediately acted on our concerns, implementing new protocols based on our experience. Thank you, Marcus, for your due diligence and genuine care for the facility and current families in attendance. I wish our experience was different, however, I truly believe the owner is making necessary adjustments to improve the current status of Lighthouse Academy with the best interest of the children at the forefront of these changes. We lasted 4 days. When our 5 month old started at this facility, we had very high hopes. In the infant room, there is only 1 qualified teacher. The other morning infant teacher, Miss Ali, is the director's daughter, who also has a child in the infant room. How is a parent supposed to bring issues forward in confidence knowing a staff member is directly related to the director of the facility? This is a direct conflict of interest. The director admitted the new staff had not completed their safe sleep training prior to being left alone in the classroom with infants. This is unacceptable, and no staff should be allowed to be left unattended in any childcare facility without adequate training completed. My son was picked up at the end of the day on multiple occasions with a dirty/soiled diaper. The bowel movement was crusted to his bottom, being obvious it had been a while since his last diaper change. Another instance, I picked him up mid-day and he was in the same diaper as he was when I dropped him off 3 hours prior (different pattern/design diapers, so this was obvious). The staff logged a changing at 10:20am, which is a direct falsification of accurate record of events. His diaper was never changed, and the staff deliberately lied about it on the Procare app. I refuse to believe his diaper was checked at 10:20am and it was completely dry, when it was completely soaked at 11am upon arrival for pickup. No child should be left in the same diaper for 3+ hours. How am I supposed to leave my son with a facility for 8+ hours a day when I can't trust they are properly caring for my child or have at minimum basic childcare training? At drop off, the staff was playing the song Birthday Sex by Jeremiah in the infant room while the director was present. I find this to be completely inappropriate, and clearly demonstrates a lack of care on the director's end if she takes no issue with this. When I told the facility it was our last day, the director walked to her office and didn't ask for an explanation or attempt to show any care or compassion. What happened to Director of the Year? Our short time at Lighthouse Academy was a disappointment to say the least, and overall an incredibly huge waste of time and unnecessary expense. If you expect basic quality of care for your child, especially if your child is an infant, I recommend looking elsewhere. Do not trust your child's care with minimally/inadequately trained staff who have quite literally never changed a diaper prior to their employment with Lighthouse Academy.
I have had my son in Lighthouse for about 3 years now and really love it. He has had some amazing teachers along the way and Amanda the director is incredible! Having a child on the spectrum it is hard to know sometimes how he is doing or what may he going on with him but he has the greatest support system outside of home I could ask for. They love him and understand the challenges he sometimes faces and do everything possible to meet his need and to communicate with me. He will be going there for many years to come!
I can’t say enough good things about our experience with Lighthouse Childcare! As a parent of a 14-month-old and a three-year-old, leaving my children in someone else's care can feel daunting. However, the incredible teachers at Lighthouse make all the difference. Both my son and daughter started in the infant room with hands down the best teachers (Mrs. Martha - 20+ years experience here, Mrs. Sheila - 20+ years - just retired- missed greatly), Mrs. Morgan & Mrs. Macie) From the moment we walked through the doors, we knew our children were in the best hands, they exude so much love and care in these infant rooms - truly a value add to a anxious new mom going back to work. The teachers are not just caregivers, but truly special individuals who create a nurturing, fun, and safe environment. My three-year-old comes home excited about his day - especially about how much he LOVES his Mrs. Twanna & Mrs. Kara & still talks about Mrs. Sheila and I’ve noticed tremendous growth in his social and cognitive skills. My 14-month-old is always greeted with warm smiles and endless patience, which gives me such peace of mind. The attention, kindness, and love these teachers pour into each child are evident every day. They go above and beyond to ensure that not only are the children happy and engaged, but parents are well-informed and confident about their little ones’ care. Having such dedicated teachers makes our experience at Lighthouse truly exceptional, as mentioned above my children’s teachers put their heart in their job and it’s priceless. It’s an amazing feeling knowing my children are growing and thriving, all thanks to the wonderful care and expertise of this team. We couldn’t be happier with our choice! Thank you for taking care of our teachers so they can take care of our babies.
I have two girls attending Lighthouse Academy. One in PreK and another in the Schooler room. Both of my girls enjoying their time there and never want to leave. Teachers are sweet and informative about their days. What I like about this daycare compared to others around, is that they always host family events and tons field trips for the kids. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for care. The Director and Assistant Director are always on top of communication and answer any questions that I might have.
Our previous daycare had to close abruptly and lead us to this gem. They have been taking care of my son for a little over a year and I could not be more pleased! Amanda and Hannah are AMAZING! Sheila, Martha, Ali, Jayden, Tina, Kelsey, Kara and Becca (I may even be missing a few) have been wonderful teachers. They all make sure I'm fully informed and my son is growing daily. When I received some life-changing news, they rallied around me in ways I could not have imagined. It truly takes a village and I'm so blessed to have found mine. If you are considering Lighthouse for childcare, DO IT!!! 💜
