What Parents Say
Happy Days Childcare - North has highly polarized reviews. While some parents praise individual teachers (particularly Mrs. Allen) and report long-term satisfaction, numerous recent complaints document serious concerns including child neglect, inadequate supervision, unprofessional staff behavior, and allegations of physical punishment that were not properly reported to authorities or parents.
If you had asked me a year ago my rating may have been higher. However given recent issues of neglect by teachers leaving children unattended, threatening children with being locked in closets and smack them with rulers there is no way I could recommend this place. DCS has informed myself of the many issues with this daycare facility during their recent investigation including not reporting inappropriate behaviors children are exposed to, or are even propositioned into by other children to parents, to not even reporting or properly document these clear red flags of child abuse to the proper authorities. I do believe that there are some good teachers here. Ms. Allen is the best from my experience. However it is not worth the risk of putting your child in danger. As a parent it terrifies me the things that are happening to these children in the facility that don’t even get reported to parents.
Completely agree with what others have posted the worst part about the Merrillville office is the staff...very rude definitely unprofessional and absolutely they can ignore the children while they are busy chatting. The director is nice and the peanuts teacher is nice the rest leave a lot to be desired and they feed off of each other’s attitude. Don’t treat the parents with respect and the learning is on the low side its pretty just a place for your kid to be and play with others while you are away
Very unprofessional. Staff seems uneducated and plucked straight off of street. Some of them had body odor, a lot of them were dressed inappropriately for a daycare setting. I Came in to pick to pick up my kids on several occasions to find that the kids were not being supervised, the teachers would be off in the corners talking to each other or sitting behind a desk and a group of two or three years old are expected to sit at a table quietly for hours while the teachers talk to each other about their weekends, gossip, random garbage... just an all around bad experience
Very unprofesional. My child was screamed at by one of the aids. This was witnessed by my husband. They did nothing about it and she is still working there. My husband wanted to see what happened on the camera, just to be told that the cameras DON'T RECORD ANYTHING. But, they don't tell you that when you're enrolling them, so they can get your money every month. Also, my child learned absolutely nothing in the 2 months he was there. Needless to say my kid is no longer enrolled. If I could leave no stars, I would. DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS HERE!
My granddaughter attends this daycare and she is in Mrs. Allen’s peanuts class..Mrs. Allen is a very kind but firm teacher..she reminds me of our grandmothers..”Yes Ma’am, No Ma’am”...I love the values she teaches the kids..my grand baby has learned a lot in a short time with her. I really like her classroom and she takes pride in her work. I was scared for my grand baby to attend any daycare but having her as a teacher, my mind is at ease.
