Born and raised in Astoria that I call home and now a visitor, going to church is a Priority always .Now that I have grown and have children and grandchild not wanting to comment but to who it may concern , Attended yesterday for the Epiphania It was an embarrassment that the old people would that stop Talking and were complaining because the youth had come and taken their seats in the front as an older generation we must promote are youth and be glad they are attending even with the school although the girls skirts were way too short not appropriate for Church or representing Saint Dimitrios school Chewing gum cris cross legs talking in church I know it’s not all the teachers fault, but if the parents have not taught their children the proper way to do our cross and not laugh and chew gum waiting to receive communion but to understand how serious it is for their well-being at home from parents and priests of our churches to also teach the altar boys what is proper and what is not in the iero one boy was acting like a clown face expressions, no respect of his position in the altar They should be reprimand and taught right I’m not criticising who am I but only God will teach us our lessons But what Is right and what is wrong in God’s House should be taught to the old and to the young I’m still learning myself. I was privileged to have Attended Monastery and have a spiritual father that teaches me every day glory to God may God forgive us all
One of Astoria’s hidden gems. This neighborhood Orthodox Church has some beautiful art inside. Make sure you check it out if you are around.
Had a lovely service here. The cathedral looks lovely, the electric organ does work after some technical service, it can get a little warm in the summer, but it’s a lovely space.and there is a handicapped ramp entrance that lets tourists in just to the left of the altar.
The church has a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere, it's a comforting place to attend services, light candles, and connect with Jesus, Mary, and the Saints through the sacred icons. However, as someone born and raised in Greece, I can’t help but feel saddened that the spirit of filotimo, the deep-rooted Greek values of hospitality, kindness, and respect, sometimes feels overlooked here, perhaps influenced by the fast pace of NYC. It’s something I hold dear, and I truly hope it continues to shine through in our community.
We drove from Philadelphia to celebrate Greek Orthodox Easter.Anastasie. Beautiful community wonderful service. Great experience..
