What Parents Say
Gilpin County Youth Camps is a highly-rated community recreation center praised for its excellent facilities and friendly staff. Parents highlight the quality pools, fitness equipment, and welcoming atmosphere. The facility offers affordable access for locals and is especially valuable for seniors in Gilpin County.
Lovely pools. The kids pool is heated and has great depth variation. They also are wonderful about turning on or off the buckets if a kid does not like them(they do that when they're the only group there) which has been great with the little ones. There's lanes and a diving board in the deep end. And a great pile of toys, which is great for older kids too.
Love my new gym. It has all the things and is quiet.
I was very dismayed to see the lifeguards talking and playing on their phones together and leaving the deep end of the pool, with children in it, unattended.
I and some of our Ameristar team hosted the senior lunch this month and every single person I spoke to was wonderful! From the amazing rec center staff to the senior citizens. You can tell community is big here!
This is a forewarning/insight to all health and fitness fanatics such as myself. Unfortunately, I couldn't make this up if I wanted to.The outside of the facility looks pretty good, the inside of the facility not so much. By far the dirtiest gym I've ever trained at, one of the cardio machines literally has rings of dirt where you place your feet in it to run, dust and grime all over the facility on the floors and accumulated in the corners of multiple rooms. I opened a locker in the men's changing area that had so much hair in it that you would have thought someone got a haircut in it. The locker room floor had stains from spilled beverages that were accumulating grime on them from not being mopped over time. I wiped off a workout mat I was going to use for floor exercises only to have the cloth I used to wipe it down covered in filth. I see strains of hair all over the floors and equipment. I saw multiple pieces of equipment broken ( cardio bike, a medicine ball split so bad it was on the verge of becoming 2 pieces, several flat yoga balls.) In defense of all this I will say that monthly dues are only $20 a month. I wouldn't be shocked if someone were to catch some sort of infection (ringworm, etc.) from the lack of sanitation maintained by the staff. Saw all of this in the first week of my membership...discouraging to say the least. The people that come to train are extremely friendly though. Place has great potential, simply needs to address its cleanliness and equipment upkeep. Will gladly remove this post when qualitative standards are upheld there, until then this is the bitter truth of what $20 a month will get you.
