TLDR: Prejudiced donation handler There’s a shorter older man who was very kind and sweet the first time I donated, but the second time I donated this tall older man was talking to me as if he thought I was a homeless person who had wandered up, not a hello but a “What’s going on over here” to which I wonder if we are helping underserved communities, why would you speak to someone so dismissively regardless of who you think they are (especially because I was just standing in line silently) Even after I handed him my donation he was very wary of me, no thank you. All I did was stand in line. With the way he was looking at and speaking to me I really felt it was because I’m a POC and was wearing a hoodie because he was so much more polite to the white woman right in front me who had the same donation bags and everything. Mirrored many racist interactions Disappointed because I loved to donate to here and specifically held donations to go here to directly help rather than a thrift store or something, even tho they’re more conveniently located. At least people are being helped by the items and organization provides good overall
What a beautiful and kind organization this is! I had an absolutely wonderful time shopping around their clothing closet for blue colored clothes 😊 Such warm understanding staff. It takes a dedicated individual to be compassionate during this time, and I felt so welcomed and accepted at Francis Center! Thank you for all the love and guidance 🫶
Students can drop in and pick up important items for work and school. Tailor made threads from my fairy godmother, and lunch.
Don’t donate here! Refused to accept my donation because the older man didn’t feel like looking through the 3 boxes I had. Pulled out 3 items that were passed date and told me he wasn’t going to spend the time to look at the in date items. Even had clothes and unopened feminine hygiene products that were rejected at the door by the same man. I had probably 50+ good denotable items. Horrible service for an organization that depends on donations like these. Go somewhere else that has better attitudes and service if you’re really trying to help the less fortunate. Update: called back later the same day, spoke to the director and he refused to give me the name of the volunteer who refused my donations. Told me he’d rather “protect” his volunteers than simply give me a name. If that doesn’t tell you anything about how this place is ran then I don’t know what will.
Amazing experience these people go above and beyond and just have an amazing atmosphere and environment
