What Parents Say
Brad Akins YMCA is a well-equipped fitness facility with pools, group classes, and a child care center. Reviews praise the clean facilities and community involvement, but several parents express concerns about daycare hours, pool maintenance, staff training, and rising membership costs.
I felt discriminated against because of how I dressed at the gym, a place where you go to de-stress and wear comfortable clothes. I left this gym because they have problems with clothing. I know the gym is "Christian," but being Christian goes beyond just clothing and controlling how people dress; it's about being patient, respecting, and loving others. Bye ! They are too strict, and this is the Winder location.
This is a first class fitness facility . It is very family oriented. I am in my 60s and enjoy using cardio and weights without being judged. All ages inreract beautifully.
Came by for my first visit and my family decided to try the pool. They are extremely strict. That was a little different. My kids wore a life jacket and a life guard was on duty but parents are required to be within “arms reach”. That’s insane. My kids wanted swim noodles and an employee nearly jumped in the pool to take them because “those are her new noodles”. She then pointed at the closet for us to get noodles. At this point I was irritated because why wouldn’t they be allowed to play with the noodles? I’m assuming she noticed my attitude shift and brought over noodles that should have been replaced. One had duct tape wrapped around. I left immediately after. Fun was just ruined. My membership originates at the Athens location and although I think they could use a remodel, I’d go there before this location.
Horrible humiliating experience. Came here with my partner and child as a family to have a day of fitness and wellness. Manager told us we needed to leave because my membership was listed as inactive. It was very rude and I was not given an explanation of why my membership is inactive. They did not offer us a tour or possible resources on how to get membership active again. I had to go to my car twice to get my ID in the freezing cold, do you really think I would have gone through so much effort for nothing. Beware because this facility definately is giving judgemental vibes and racism.
I’m definitely a little disappointed in this place. I’m currently in a walking boot and needed a lap pool to strengthen my foot and leg and was considering getting a membership here. However, I am not going to buy a membership to a facility I haven’t been to in a long time. I wanted to try it for the day just to see what it was like before spending money and committing to a membership that may or may not be worth it. I have no idea if the membership is worth its value if I can’t at least try the facility out and experience it for a day or two. It doesn’t say this on the web site and when I called they didn’t mention it either. I guess I’ll be making the drive to Lifetime.
