What Parents Say
Parents consistently praise the YMCA School-Age Child Care program for its warm, attentive staff who create a safe and secure environment. Children are engaged through structured activities, homework help, and play, with staff showing genuine care and attention to individual needs. Parents report their children are excited to attend and appreciate the convenience and quality of care.
In years past, the YMCA was able to serve kids with special needs and emotional challenges. This is no longer the case. Be warned that they will happily accept your child in the beginning but the moment the child needs extra help, they will terminate your childcare, hiding behind the statement "we can't keep him safe" when they really just don't have any kind of competent leadership there to handle the problem. They're much more concerned about litigation than they are about the challenges of families. Do not take your child here under any circumstances or you may find yourself out of luck
Our kindergartener loves the YMCA before and after school program. From her first day of school, the staff welcomed her with warmth and love, and any fears she had about this new experience evaporated. She is excited to get there each morning, and has actually scolded me for picking her up too early a time or two. I feel reassured knowing she's in a safe environment with people who've taken the time to get to know her and who pay attention to what's going on with the kids in their care. When it was time to make a decision about Spring Break and Summer care, it was easy to pick the YMCA programs, and I sure appreciate anything that makes this parenting gig a little bit easier.
My child has participated in before and after school program as well as various camps throughout the year. I’ve had some really good experiences with YMCA school-age child care, but I’ve also had some extremely poor experiences where the children were not well supervised and some very damaging things took place. In one instance, another student brought an electronic device and exposed other students to hardcore pornography. This and other larger issues were not addressed properly by central office management. Really sad and quite scary to the point that I’d feel safer leaving my child home alone.
Ms. Clotie and her team at Norton Commons do a wonderful job. They are engaging with the children, greet each child by name, and are consistent with expectations and rules. There is always a schedule and a routine, as a result my children feel secure and safe there. Thank you.
The variety of things that the kids do daily, they go on outings during school breaks. Plus physical activity, arts, music. The snacks are also nutritious. My grandchildren like the Lautkaf CEP program. I've not had any trouble with staff or otherwise.
