What Parents Say
The YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester in Mahopac receives mixed reviews with ratings ranging from 1 to 5 stars. Parents praise the staff, atmosphere, and pricing, but several express concerns about class quality, staff attentiveness, facility conditions, and customer service responsiveness.
Horrible place! I though signing up would be an amazing experience but i was just not worth my money. The gym smells like pee and its so dark in there. the classes for children are the worst. Took my toddler and he was ignore most of the Super Hero class because he was the only boy. Only when 2 other boys came in the teacher finally paid attention to my kid. Soccer class was also a disaster, they did everything except for soccer! how is throwing a huge bouncy ball that can possible hurt a small 3 year old. Will definitely stop by to cancel my account.
Hello, Yes, there is reverse discrimination and it is subtle. And more importantly, as I woman I did not feel empowered. It is unfortunate that my children did take swim and gymnastic classes and although some of the teachers were fantastic others had an attitude and were quite rude. There was a feeling of "you are white and you need to settle down/". Discrimination affects everyone! After attending YWCA swim classes for at least 4-5 years, I should not feel that way especially at a Y that supports all women of all ethnicities and race. As for the gymnastics classes, one other parent was just oblivious to her children bullying mine and the teachers tried to settle it however, it was not done effectively so it continued. I left. They take swim and gymnastics classes elsewhere. The only positive comment I can make is that the swim and gymnastics parties were fantastic. For that, I thank the organizers. My children did love their birthday parties which is why I gave two stars otherwise I would have given one star.
We signed our son up for the fall swim classes. We're now 4 weeks into the class session and each of the 4 classes has been cancelled due to instructor not showing up, issues with pool, etc. No communication on reimbursement. Completely irresponsible.
I wish I can give minus start.. so unfortunate that an organization that claims building youth and leadership fails to be inclusive! Not in this world. teach your staff what’s the meaning of inclusion, acceptance and welcoming all regardless of who they are.. children are innocent, treat them with respect and kindness and they will show their best self regardless of their disability! So disappointed
So long! It is gone!!! What an absolute mess this place turned out to be. This was once a very decent place to live in and participate in activities. But since the double murders several years ago, the YMCA has gone completely downhill in management and operations. No money was given to keep this place afloat properly and the people who ran it did not know what they were doing, quite frankly. It's a shame that the people who live here have to live in the dirt and squalor that exists in the building. There's no dignity in living at the YMCA in White Plains or is there any decency left in its operation. Hopefully the new owners of the property will tear it down and build something even better in its place. This is a message to all the executives at the YMCA association of America. You neglected a great place and destroyed your reputation. This could have been a thriving business but instead you put money elsewhere in capital funding. What a joke! Sold!!!
