Been going here for almost 5 years, because it’s the only place in town to play basketball indoors during the winter. They’ve raised membership prices 4 times since I first joined, the most recent price increase being a 50% percent jump. In that time, they’ve neglected to replace broken equipment in the weight room, with multiple pieces being repaired with duct tape. The nets on the basketball hoops are frequently ripped and hanging off ($10 replacement at most). The basketballs themselves are in rough shape, with some being deflated and others being decades old. The gymnasium schedule is constantly being changed, causing confusion for people like me who want to participate in drop-in basketball. The schedule is largely dedicated to youth basketball. I’m not against this in principle, but the problem is that children leave the floors in the gym very dirty, and the YMCA staff fails to properly clean them. I’ve brought this up to their staff many times over the years, and nothing is ever done about it. Myself and others have slipped on the dirty floors while playing basketball many times, and it’s always been a source of complaints from other members. Recently, there was a leak in the roof above the gymnasium, and a friend of mine slipped in a puddle and hurt his knee. I really want to support this place, as it has the potential to offer so much value to the community, but after so many years of poor service, despite their large budget surplus ($1.5m+ in cash on hand according to their most recent audit), I feel like they truly don’t care about their members. I hope things change, but the moment another indoor basketball gym opens, I’m gone.
Basically got harassed out of there in the last 10 minutes by a worker in the weight room. I understand that everyone wants to go home but it was rude, he was clearly annoyed by me and coming up every 5 minutes to remind me how much time I had left. Then pushed that I really needed to get out of there at 8:58 because they were “clearly getting ready to get out of here.” I work a part-time job too, it’s true some people are oblivious to closing times but you are open till 9. I very well know this and I was keeping track of the time and being respectful. Have some faith in your customers. Only 2 stars because I love this facility otherwise but this really put a bad taste in my mouth.
The building the YMCA is in is very old and beautiful, i love the history of the building. However my family and I visited recently and used a 3day pass we were given. We mainly went so the kids could enjoy the pool - the kids pool is VERY out dated, had many areas in the pool where the lining was coming up which caused sharp edges and i kept stepping on broken pool liner pieces. The lifeguard that was there also didnt make our visit very pleasant and was very nit-picky with what the kids (ours and another family) were doing. I get that its a small shallow pool and safety first and all but i think he was a little excessive with his requests to not do this or that. My kids left saying they never wanted to come back - we did not end up going back to use our remaining 2 visits. Ultimately im glad i did not purchase a membership here, huge disappointment.
The price for value you get for membership is here is amazing. Friendly staff, positive environment, and the gym has enough machines and space to be comfortable even at the busiest I've seen it. Also the YMCA is non-profit, who wants to pay those other greedy gyms with their sales tactics BS?
Great place to workout, safe positive environment. Very great gym for kids to get active between the basketball hoops, dance studio and pool my 9 year old has gotten in very good shape this summer. The exercise machines are clean and there is a good variety they are always working and I’ve never had to wait for a machine I wanted to use. The staff is very kind, and I like that I can come workout which I do every day and just workout and not be bothered by anyone just do my workout and they don’t have some of the shady sign up stuff like some gyms do the y is affordable and have nice machines plus they do a really fun Halloween thing each year my son loves
