What Parents Say
The Everett YMCA Family CDC is a newly built facility (opened summer 2022) with modern amenities and consistently praised for cleanliness, friendly staff, and quality equipment. Parents appreciate the variety of pools, fitness classes, and inclusive community atmosphere. While most reviews are positive, some minor facility improvements have been suggested.
I actually really love this YMCA. The instructors for the exercise classes are the BEST. I hope I will one day be at least be 10% as cool as Gael and Linda. They are so incredibly fun and I will always recommend their exercise classes forever. 10/10!!! My disappointment comes from the swim lessons. I have 10+ years of experience teaching swim lessons through various swimming pools teaching the Red Cross swim lesson format. I put my kids in lessons at the Y because my kids are getting to the age where listening to mom isn't as much fun as listening to other adults when it comes to learning things. They are very comfortable in the water but they need to be pushed out of their comfort zone and I was hoping that group lessons would give them inspiration to be better swimmers. My kids are in level 2. And the lessons are so painful to watch. Maybe I just know what I am looking for. But the kids in the class never get demonstrations from the teacher and the teacher barely offers any feedback. They just assume the kid should know what to do. They told my kid to tread water and instead of really explaining it they just said to do it and of course my kid just goes right underwater each time. The kid teaching the lessons clearly likes their job. So I am assuming this is a failure on the part of the Y to offer in-services and instructor training to make their instructors better. If the instructors aren't willing to get their own hair wet and show the kids what to do.... Then that's a problem. My kids haven't learned ANYTHING during this session. So not sure what I paid for. I actually had to give my kid feedback mid lesson so they would stop kicking above the water so they would float better while on their back. I won't be signing my kids up for swim lessons again. I just cannot trust they will actually learn anything. Also I witnessed the teachers getting out of their previous lessons a few minutes early so they could hop in the hot tub. A lifeguard had to tell them their class was starting so they would get out and go back into the pool. 0/10.
I’ve been going to this Y for about a year and I mostly like it. I only use the weight room, track, have tried one yoga class, and have been in the pool and hot tub but the chlorine smell is too gross so I don’t use those anymore. I also like the sauna but wish there was one for females only. My feedback is that I do wish they were open later on Saturdays, especially in the winter/colder months. Also, wish the kid zone was open on Sundays and that it was open later on Saturdays. I gave this feedback when I signed up and I’ve also seen another review requesting the same thing about kid zone being open on Sundays. I’d love to hear an update on if this is going to happen, something other than this feedback will be passed along because we’ve already heard that. Also, when there are basketball or volleyball tournaments or games, the noise is so piercing that I almost have to leave. I have seen that there are some felt panels for noise, but there needs to be more. Lastly, earlier this year the women’s locker room was closed for beautification…it is not at all noticeable what was done. There are bent hooks, the showers are so gross I will not use them and the shower curtains are basically useless, and the changing room stall walls and doors are unstable and you have to slam the door to shut it. Some general maintenance with someone with an eye for detail is in need.
The steam sauna is too small for the amount of people that want to use it. The men's locker room is way, way to undersized for the volume of people. The other facilities are above average.
Husband and I have had nothing but positive experiences at the Everett YMCA. I was reading reviews of this facility because I noticed they have a fairly low (IMO) rating. Many of the poor reviews/ratings are a few years old so it seems the problems have been addressed. Regarding the negative reviews, I would like to point out my observations: Pool schedule - The schedule is posted online and they also have monthly schedules printed to take home with you. I keep one on my fridge! If you check the schedule before packing up the family for a swim, you won't have a problem. Employee courtesy/helpfullness - we have not observed anything but warm and friendly interactions with guests. Childcare - i have never used it so I cannot rate it. Weight room - i am not a gym rat, but there is nothing lacking for my purposes. They have plenty of cardio equipment. The stretching area is tight. They should have more room to accommodate more people. Stretching is important! Locker rooms - The women's locker room is kept clean. It is well ventilated and I have never noticed a funky smell. There are non-slip mats for safety. Considering the newish age of the facility, the locker area seems kind of dated, but I would rather they put membership $$ into providing quality equipment/classes than a state-of-the-art locker room. Pools - i love the variety of pools. I bounce between the lap pool, lazy river, and open pool. The lap pool is a few degrees cooler than the general pool which I love. During the summer months it was pretty busy in there, but after school started back up its been wide open. I go in the.late mornings or early afternoons and sometimes there are less than 20 people in all three pools. I do have one suggestion. I do aqua PT there and use a pool noodle but they keep those in room that's inaccessible to guests. I always have to ask a life guard to grab one for me and I hate to interfere with their important duties. Just keep a few noodles out with your other equipment please. The lazy river is awesome! I enjoy using it when there are no kiddos to maneuver around because I often walk against the flow and it can cause a traffic jam. Again, morning hours are perfect for using the river! It's a beautiful and clean facility, plenty of parking, and friendly staff. We are lucky to have such a fine YMCA on our community!
The new YMCA has an amazing state-of-the-art facility. It's great for the whole family with swimming pool areas that are open swim for the children. Group classes & Yoga, wellness Coach, activities. Also a great new convenient location in Everett on Colby
