This place is a dungeon. I really wanted to support the Downtown YMCA, but this location is an embarrassment that's being left to rot while other branches get updates. The building opened in 1969, and it feels like they haven't deep-cleaned or updated anything since. It's dark, musty, and just plain old and dingy. The equipment is broken or outdated, It's not vintage charm—it's neglect. But the layout is the real disaster. They hold cycling classes on this tiny terrace that overlooks the main gym. And because it's a multipurpose space, it's also used for yoga. Nothing says 'zen' like having people walk in and get an eyeful of everyone's ass in the air. So don't expect to get a consistent cycling session in—it's awkward for everyone. And then, the audacity. They have the nerve to charge a $25 drop-in fee for a sauna and steam room that legitimately looks like it was installed the day the building opened in 1969 and hasn't been touched since. It's not worth a penny. To top it all off, they up-charge access to a tiny room with maybe four machines and try to pass it off as a 'personal fitness center.' It's a glorified broom closet. Between the dungeon-like atmosphere, old facility, the broken equipment, the awkward zoo-like layout, and the insulting up-charges for ancient amenities, this place is a complete scam. Save your money and go to another YMCA that actually believes in maintenance.
I've been a member since 2006 my experience have been amazing I'm thankful for the community that I cultivated and what the YMCA has to offer the classes are wonderful I hope my review inspires someone to join also financial help is available as well.
The fact that they charge extra for amenities that other Ys have for free only minutes away is ridiculous. The actually facility is nothing special either. Charles lackin only minutes away has a way better facility and there’s no extra cost.
Well kept in the entire facility, it’s a place of sweat but cleanliness is priority. And the Downtown Omaha YMCA does a wonderful job keeping it nice and clean.
The staff are great. The only complaint is it is a bit rundown and the evening childcare is always closed making it hard to workout in the evenings after work. The personal training is wonderful!! They all are great but I highly recommend Beth - she is AMAZING!
