What Parents Say
Reviews are positive overall, though most comments focus on the YMCA gym facilities rather than the daycare center itself. Parents praise the clean facilities, friendly staff, and variety of amenities including pools, fitness classes, and childcare options.
We go for kids swim lessons. The teachers are a mixed bag, some do very little but some are amazing. I've also really appreciated the preschool level 1 with parent class. My kid is level 1 but still nervous of being with just a teacher, it's a great option to get them used to working with a swim instructor
First time at this branch, the pool is well maintained and clean, temperature is great! The men’s steam room is excellent! Also clean and properly functional. There’s a sauna next door that was a bit timid, but I assume that’s just my timing, I didn’t wait long for it, just returned to the steam room. Next time I’ll explore the rest of the facility but staff were all friendly and helpful. Ample parking outside, a ball field and outdoor pool for the summer months apparently. It’s wonderful to have a functional pool nearby!
We enrolled our 3-year-old son, in the Stage 1 swimming class at YMCA Waltham and unfortunately had a very concerning experience. From the start, the coaching approach by the main instructor was not supportive of his emotional and developmental needs. He was often overlooked, and when he cried or became upset, the responses lacked empathy and patience. At times, he even received judgmental looks instead of reassurance. One incident that really upset us was when he accidentally fell into the pool during class, and the coach at the time showed little attentiveness or constructive feedback afterward. Ignoring a young child when he is struggling only adds to their fear, and it was disheartening to witness. Thankfully, on the second day, Coach Max stepped in and completely changed our son’s experience. His patience, kindness, and understanding helped him feel safer and more confident. Coach Max showed exactly the level of care and empathy that we believe is essential when working with young children. We are truly grateful for his support and would love to recognize him further for his outstanding efforts. We hope YMCA Waltham takes this feedback seriously and ensures more thoughtful, inclusive coaching for all children.
Edit 9/13 No on was there to open at 5:30 again. Been a member less than 60 days and this is a handful of times now. I’ll be cancelling as soon as I find another gym. Check out the pic. The men’s locker room smells of urine and is clearly not maintained regularly. Look at the pictures of poo! All of these photos were taken different days and right at opening. No one enforces wiping down equipment which means you get to bask in the glory of others’ sweat and germs. The basketballs are constantly deflated and the best they can do is offer you a pump. It took contacting via the website to finally have them inflated. There are not enough weight plates, especially the 45’s In the last month there have been more than once where the place isn’t open because someone is not there early enough to open. No apologies, no credit given. Nothing. When the hours changed for construction, no credit given, either. You change your hours and it eliminates the gym as a possibility for those of us who don’t have the schedule to move around.
Local Y with pool, basketball court, child watch, and lively community. Sufficient cardio room and relatively small free weight areas.
