What Parents Say
The Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA Daycare receives consistently high ratings (5/5 stars across all reviews). Parents praise the clean, well-organized facility housed in a historic building, friendly staff, and quality amenities including a pool and modern gym equipment.
Very well organized and ran. Located in what was once a church, the old stone structure is beautiful in its appearance and rather large. The Staff was quite friendly and helpful. We were there for a swimming session with our Scout Troop. The pool was clean and well organized. The Instructors and lifeguards were extremely attentive. Facility was clean with private changing rooms. Would Love to go back and see the rest of the building. This was an all around nice YMCA experience. Pay to park Parking lot directly across the street. Although, the YMCA did validate it for me at time of check in/registration. I'm not sure if this is a normal thing or if it was because we were there with the scouts. Would definitely recommend! We would be prone to join this YMCA if we lived closer.
This ymca is nice because the gym is large and there are not a lot of people who go. They have a huge variety of machines and it is one of the nicest gyms i’ve seen. The pool is a plus but more often than not, the pool will be closed for swim lessons or other events. The pool has been available when I wanted to use it about 30% of the time. The hours are atrocious. Especially weekend hours. This membership is not cheap, at least add better weekend hours for school aged kids. Last, all of the mothers and their children doing swim lessons steal every bathroom in the building. There are changing rooms but these mothers will use the bathrooms instead. When I need to use the bathroom while working out, it could take up to 15 minutes to find one open due to these mothers changing their children in the bathrooms. Update: The construction did not help anything because as a member we could go into the locker room to use a bathroom. But now being a member does not give you access to the locker room. You have to pay “extra” on top of your membership to use a locker room. What is the point of being a member?
Shoutout to the customer rep who signed me up on a membership and made me feel comfortable! I signed up mainly for the gym and it has all the stuff I need. The only thing is since construction is going on everywhere, it was a little difficult to navigate where to go my first time, but other than that, a great location.
I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the before and aftercare services at the YMCA. My experience with Ms. Kelly was totally unacceptable - she was aggressive and yelling at my niece and nephew in a public setting, which is completely uncalled for. When I tried to address the situation with my sister present (their mom) Ms. Kelly started being defensive and not taking accountability for her and her staff's actions. I asked for her supervisor's information and she began to scream at me and yell their emails while I proceeded to walk away from her with my niece. To make matters worse a few days before my niece went missing from her school, Ms. Ashley refused to help myself and the school locate her. Stating the drivers won't answer the phone, this is crazy. There needs to be blue tooth installed for these types of emergencies when the arise with children. The lack of urgency and concern for these children and a child's safety is alarming. Parents and families trust childcare facilities to keep their children safe and treat the with respect. This experience left me shaken and questioning whether or not this is a safe and supportive environment for kids.
Beautiful & historic w great facilities for all ages.
