I can't say enough great things about Watchung Preschool in Montclair! The play-based learning style at Watchung is fantastic, and the children can learn in a way that suits them best. The community at Watchung is outstanding! It's like being part of one big family. The teachers are friendly, positive, and empathetic with each child. The teachers ensure that every child is treated individually and provide personalized attention to them. They foster a safe and nurturing environment that encourages each child to develop confidence and a love of learning. After four years at the Co-op, we feel a strong sense of community with the other parents there. We loved being a part of the classroom and getting to know the other families involved with the school. My children love going to Watchung and always come home talking about how much fun they had during their day. The outdoor play area is an excellent addition to the indoor classrooms and provides a lot of space for the children to play, socialize, and learn through exploration. We feel so lucky to have found the Watchung Co-op! We couldn’t have asked for a better environment for both our children to have a first experience with school. The play-based, child-centered learning approach gives them exactly what they need to to feel free to explore in a developmentally appropriate way. The teachers genuinely understand how to provide an environment where the children feel safe and nurtured, and they meet each child where they are at so that they all are able to thrive. It is truly such a special community of teachers and families!
We have been at the Watchung Co-op for 9 straight years, through 3 children. This place has been such an integral part of our early parenting lives. Over the years all 3 of my children have been nurtured in a loving and supportive environment that fostered independence, creativity, and child centered learning. Not only have my children grown enormously while at the co-op, I , myself have learned so much from the teachers and staff while being in the classroom through the co-oping experience. This has been our other family for nearly a decade. We are so grateful for this special little school.
We have been at the co-op for 4 total years with 2 kids- and have totally loved our experience! It’s a hidden gem; I love that it’s play based, open and creative. The special programs are phenomenal (Maestrotales, Music Together, and yoga). They have a very warm and approachable staff along with a modern and empowering perspective on child development. The director has been there for many years, and many families return year after year with their younger kids. When it’s relevant, you can work with the staff to meet your child’s needs. We love the teachers and also love the community you develop with other parents in this intimate setting. Best of all you get to see how your child experiences the school on co-op days!
