What Parents Say
Walnut Grove Academy receives mixed reviews with significant concerns about the infant room. While some parents praise the staff and overall environment, others report poor care quality, unresponsive teachers, and safety issues in the infant classroom.
I really hate that I feel the need to leave a review, but as a first time mom I wish I had heard more of others experiences at Walnut Grove before enrolling my 3 month old. I am convinced this is just an issue with the infant room as I liked the director and parents seem to be happy with the other classes. My daughter lasted here 2 days. Both days for pickup and drop off the infant teacher never once greeted me, even when I said “hello” or “good morning”, but even worse she would take the baby from me without even acknowledging her and just put her in a swing. It made me sick to my stomach because it was very evident my baby was just a “job” for her and wasn’t receiving any love. The assistants had to have been teenagers, they looked SO young. The last straw for me was day 2 pickup when my daughter was crying hysterically in a swing when I showed up. I completely understand babies cry, but would expect some sort of acknowledgment of the situation. Instead they grabbed her in silence, so I asked how long she had been crying and the response was “I don’t know, 20 minutes?” with ZERO context. You’d think an explanation of what was done to try to comfort her would be appropriate, but no. To top it off, we paid for 2 weeks and Walnut Grove has refused to reimburse us for the 2nd week (we were fine to pay for the week of the 2 days we went) and ignored all calls/voicemails we’ve left. So we paid $720 to be nervous wrecks for 2 days because our guts were telling us our daughter wasn’t being properly cared for. I wish I had heard other parents experiences in the infant room before even trying this place.
My nephew was at the center for 4 months, he cried everyday even just pulling up to the building, the teachers were not warm or friendly, instead of reaching for him or trying to console him or distract him they would leave him standing there crying. The final straw was when he ended up getting hurt at daycare requiring him to get 3 stiches on his eyebrow. The story we were told is he "bumped his head on a shelf." He is now at a new daycare and no longer cries when we drop off, he's excited to go to school and we have seen such an improvement in his demeanor.
As first time parents we were super nervous about taking our baby to daycare, but we have nothing but good things to say about Walnut Grove. The teachers in the infant room are fabulous.
Awesome staff, almost feel like I'm dropping off the kiddo to family.
A wonderful daycare environment - everyone should visit and can see for themselves
