What Parents Say
UNM Children's Campus receives mostly positive reviews (6 five-star ratings) praising the educational programming, small class sizes, qualified teachers, and comprehensive activities. However, two one-star reviews raise serious concerns about child safety, inadequate responses to bullying and physical altercations, and staff conduct issues.
We have/had three kids attend UNMCC. They are amazing. They offer so much programming from day-to-day facilities and care, to field trips, family nights throughout the year, and summer camp for elementary and middle school. It is not cheap, but you get a lot for your fees. There is a long waitlist and one parent has to maintain affiliation with UNM to be eligible for sending your kids here. We have had some billing issues in the past and communication from admin can be slow. Overall, we love having our kids at this facility and will continue as long as possible.
I've had nothing but a good experience here. My first child went to the PreK program, loved her teachers and classmates and never had problems. We are going to try to get her into the before and after school for next year. My younger daughter is in a 2-3 age class. Granted, yes, two of her teachers left around the same time and so there was different people helping out to cover while they found someone new. But overall, this place has much less turnover than other childcare places I've found. Many of the teachers have early childhood education and teach actual curriculum. They do a LOT of sensory play, and so we just bring extra clothes, and the kids have a good time. They go outside and play pretty much rain or shine, which I think is great. I've never seen any negative discipline. Class sizes are small, usually 2 teachers for 8-10 kids during the day. It's a bit pricey, but absolutely worth it.
This used to be an amazing place, but it has gone downhill. My child has been bitten, scratched, hit, had dirt thrown At him - all of these things on his face and body multiple times with no real action or consequences. There was also a very aggressive child that many children were bullied by (physically & emotionally). I watched a student-caretaker yell at my child (5 years old) while standing over him after he got pushed because she didn’t know I could see her from inside while they were lining up. A teacher called me and left a voicemail saying that my child got bit because he threw something at another child, but when I got there to pick him up and I asked him about it he said that the child bit him first. When I confronted the teacher she changed her story and admitted that this was true. There have been countless unresolved problems and teachers picking on certain kids even after we met with the director, lead teacher, and assistant teacher. If I had another child they would not be going here. They are not safe or well protected. The great lead teachers always leave, and I see why.
We love this program and are so happy with everyone there. More important, our twin boys love it there!
Wonderful child care once you get off the waiting list
