What Parents Say
Springfield R-12 School District receives mixed reviews with significant concerns about operational issues and student safety. While some parents praise helpful staff and academic programs like advanced classes and IB offerings, many report serious problems with virtual learning quality, grade reporting accuracy, bullying responses, special needs support, classroom discipline, and transportation policies.
SPS has been trending in the right direction for years. Good solid teachers 80% of the time. More accelerated learning. Advanced and honor classes growing, easier to get into with correct GPA, for those students seeking to get the best out of their education before the next level. Transitioning grade to grade is smooth. Centrals IB program an excellent endeavor, debate is amazing, and the gaining college credits at an even younger level is a grand slam. I do have concerns with bullying not always being addressed appropriately and the fact in HS the counselors were often not educated enough to help aid in the right decisions, costing the parents money on unneeded classes, very stressful, often not returning phone calls. So the only improvement is more education for counselors, more direct communication from school when needed, and more punishment for those that disrupt class or bully others. Please do not whitewash the curriculum while under an Admin that already is, thank you.
Transportation, Currently disputing transportation mileage so my child can get a ride to school. Sad times when your fighting a school district regarding transportation when there is a bus stop right in front of my house for others and my child can't get a ride to school. Dealing with Springfield school district is a joke.
They don’t care about kids education especially north side schools like ( weaver and pipkin!) they ready to give a child in middle school half days Over the littlest problem. They are too worried about the paycheck
Until the school system brings back a discipline policy for teachers to keep their classroom in control due to violent and disrupting students in the elementary schools , this will only encourage these students there is no consequences other than getting in school suspension to do what they want when they want. Teachers are getting slapped, punched, spit at and they should not have to overlook this misbehavior. It is forcing the teachers to find another career after student loans and years of loving their jobs and students. It's all to the fault of the system.
This is Buck Hopkins not Sharon my complaint is on Sherwood Elementary probably not so much. The school itself is the two people that run it. The principal advice, principal very unprofessional and a lot of the staff unprofessional as well. Not going into a lot. I have way too much to say, but my son has one more year there and I can’t wait to get him out of there
