I had a bad experience with the senior rabbi named Spike Anderson. During a service, when he asked who we would like to pray for, I said my own name since I was struggling with depression and he laughed! He laughed in a posh kinda mockery laugh. There are some nice congregants here but the senior rabbi acts like a covert narcissist.
As someone raised under strict "orthodoxy" I'm not usually the biggest "fan" of reformed synagogues; but Temple Emanu-El of Atlanta is something special. Rachel, I think is the name of the canter and she's nothing short of being absolutely heavenly, and Rav Spike Anderson is simultaneously the coolest man you'll ever meet and the most well-read; Guy is well versed in Torah, Zohar, Talmud, Philo, Culture, EVERYTHING. There are Rebbe's and then there's Rav Spike. If you're not orthodox, and find yourself in ATL... Go with the Spike and his community, every time!
Warm, friendly and inviting...educational, social, and spiritual..... The synagogue has a lot to offer no matter your situation...single, married or a family. Wonderful clergy and support staff. Visitors are always welcome, traditional reform services Friday nights and Saturday mornings.
With an emphasis on social Justice, education and worship, I have come to view Temple Emanu-El as my community home. Led by Rabbi Anderson, along with Rabbi Rachel and Max Miller; an amazing palate of opportunities are available for their members.
Temple Emanu-El is a warm and welcoming place. There are programs that appeal to all ages, and they have a top notch preschool and religious school. There are so many ways to get involved, but the best thing about Temple Emanu-El is the clergy!
