I am taking Swedish classes online at my remote home location in Washington state, far from the Scandinavian School in San Francisco. The online classes are the only opportunity for me to study with actual people. And it really helps the learning process. The excellent teachers I've studied with, Monika and Anna-Karin, are both native speakers. We have 7 or 8 students attending the classes together, and we all enjoy the language learning and interaction. I really look forward to the Zoom classes every week, and can clearly see and hear myself and the other students progressing in Swedish. I am studying Swedish because I love the country, the music, and I plan to travel to Sweden and the other Scandinavian countries multiple times in the years ahead.
I have Danish heritage and decided I wanted to learn Danish. I have been taking Danish for almost 6 years. In the beginning I drove to the school every week, then Covid hit. I have been attending class on Zoom ever since, but appreciate not having to drive to SF every week.Plus students who don't live in the Bay Area can attend class. I have been with the same group of students now for a couple of years and we have really bonded and support each other in our learning journey. We are learning not only the language but about the culture. I'm so glad I found SSCC. Our teacher, Helen, is awesome!
I decided to take Norwegian on a whim and am so happy I did. Anne-Mette is an engaging, dedicated teacher who teaches you language skills while going above and beyond to introduce you to the Nordic culture. I love that I am part of a cohort of students going through the courses together and that there are people from all over the world in our class. The school does a good job creating a local community in San Francisco too. So far I have been to a Norwegian Christmas gathering at a church, the large Swedish market held on Santa Lucia day at St Mary’s, and a Christmas happy hour at the school. Looking forward to meeting more people at happy hours in 2026!
I've been trying to learn Norwegian on my own for years. Once I started taking a Norwegian language course here, I could tell my grammar was getting improved dramatically. It was also so helpful to have other students to talk to who were at the same language level as me. Really a great resource if you're interested in Scandinavian language and culture!
After looking for years for a good online Norwegian Class, I finally found one at the Scandinavian School. It is outstanding! Great teacher, great price, good pace, available all year with just a couple short breaks. Couldn't ask for a better experience. Thank you!
