What Parents Say
THE SALVATION ARMY CHILD LEARN CTR receives mixed reviews. Positive reviews praise exceptional teachers, strong IEP implementation, specialized care for children with medical needs, and family-like relationships. Negative reviews cite management unresponsiveness, policy changes, building access issues, poor teacher communication, and unfulfilled waitlist promises.
If they love and care about the children as much as they claim they do, they should treat the parents better. Previous 10 year customer here- We initially chose this childcare due to our work schedule requiring care AFTER 5:30PM and because they were rated a 5 star. Hours of operation were shortened, prices of course increased. Forced handbook updates, rules, and policies given to families. For a Christian childcare, the management behavior and responses (or lack there of) did not mirror their claims on the website/social media page. Received a letter from one Major so i requested a meeting with her. I was told by the director that i had to meet with both Majors, not the one? It was real weird. After not being able to meet their one short noticed time requirement, i sent a lengthly email advising my issues. Neither Major responsed, but i got very unprofessional and offensive email responses back from the new director who CC'd the Majors. If you like answers blaming you, tone def responses like "it's an industry standard", or "it's in the updated handbook", this is the place for you. They got new locks and I was locked out of the building when picking up several times (ON TIME), i witnessed this happen to other working parents as well. It took several of my complaints and several weeks (maybe even months) for this to be corrected. Keep in mind, if you're late though, you get called out and charged. Most teachers were very kind and professional, we had mostly positive interactions and experiences with them, which we are greatful for. I cherish the artwork and the notes/updates from the teachers. The only real negative event we had involving a teacher was when i dropped off and watched through the mirrored window for a minute or 2 before leaving one day. I saw and heard a teacher talk negatively about me as my child was in her care (which the previous director, who was amazing, addressed immediately). We are people, not numbers.
We couldn't be happier with our daycare choice! Our daycare teachers for both my children, are exceptional and work well with the Appleton Area School District. My son needed additional help with speech and coping skills, and they implemented his IEP with ease and called the school when they needed more guidance etc. My son started there at the age of 2, and is now a growing, bubbling 5 year old. My daughter is 3.5 and has so many friends + gets to see her brother on the playground on occasion. They made the sibling separation easy for them and lets them pop in to say when they need to see each other.
We have had nothing but positive experiences with the Salvation Army Children's Learning Center, however, our feelings have only increased about this family of care providers since our youngest daughter was born. We have a 3 year old who has gone there since she was 12 weeks and now have a 14 month old who attends daycare at the Salvation Army as well. Our youngest was born with a birth defect and needed extremely specialized care from 11 weeks to 6 months. The team at Salvation Army was able to face her challenges and spent a good deal of time learning how to care for her and her special needs. Our daughters condition now requires her to be on a particularily challenging food diet. This daycare has gone above and beyond to provide specific foods/meal options for her. They keep in constant contact with questions about her food restrictions and keep detailed notes throughout the day for us. As a working mom my mind has never been more at ease. Both of my daughters teachers (and everone in between) have been highly professional while still giving them the love that you can only hope to find when you choose a daycare provider. They really feel like a part of our family and that is incredibly important to my husband and I since they spend more time with our kids during the week then we do. We highly recommend the Salvation Army Children's Learning Center.
Makes promises they can’t keep. Was told they could take my kiddo in June/July. Then it was backed up to September. Here we are to December and I haven’t heard anything in months. Extremely frustrating as I took my child off other waitlists because I was told he’d be going here. Pretty sure their “waitlist” is simply nonexistent. I have heard similar issues with other families.
I would not recommend after pulling our 18 month son out after only a couple months. Teacher communication wasn't great but most importantly diapering was a big issue.
