What Parents Say
The Little Red School House receives mostly positive reviews praising staff compassion, spacious bright rooms, and engaging activities, though one parent reported serious concerns about facility maintenance, staff engagement, and room conditions. Overall rating reflects mixed experiences despite the center's high state ranking.
We had such an amazing experience with LRSH, we were so sad to leave! Our daughter started daycare in the Waddler room shortly after she turned 1 and she had such a wonderful time. It was a hard transition because she had been home with us for a year but her teachers, Miss DeeDee and Miss Megan were so loving and compassionate. She grew very attached to them and we were so sad when we moved towns and had to switch daycares. Everyday they were doing new art projects, sensory activities, reading, singing, going for walks, and more. When our daughter left she had an entire portfolio of artwork to take with her. LRSH teachers really love their students!
They are the best daycare that we've ever used! All of the staff are wonderful! As the daycare is in a converted school (which I went to MANY years ago) all of the rooms have large windows that let tons of sunlight in. And, the rooms are very large for the kids to play in. My daughter went to this school for nearly two years. They do crafts, learn to write and read and go on outings to the park down the street. They also learn to grow plants in the planters outside of the building. Plus, they have a large playground. The only negatives, which is relative, is that the cost for the daycare is high. The children have to bring their own food to school. But, we felt that the premium price was justified by the premium experience for our child.
I had very high hopes based on the cost and the state ranking. We were shocked to walk in and find it poorly kept up and maintained, what toys they had appeared broken and more buzzer and sound based than educational, naked barbies in a box for toddlers? Toddler room had a bean bag chair entirely covered in duct tape, no windows at the kids level in that room, an awfully small room, the teacher appearing tired, frazzled and unengaged with us, no sense of space or creative / proper set up in the room an odd smell about the place, and the playground, while fenced in, is in a pretty busy area of Westbrook honestly. The infant room was equally odd, babies all sitting in their jumper units and the staff unengaged, a play area with hardwood and no padding and absolutely no toys for the crawlers. The whole thing felt very off. You should not drive away feeling bad for the children in a daycare’s charge. We toured multiple facilities and this was the only one we felt odd about. I cannot imagine why the state ranks them so highly, but we have had bad reports from other former parents, so we know our hunches were correct.
We sent our son here and we loved it. Like all daycare, it was painfully expensive, but certainly more affordable than most others we looked into. The staff were phenomenal, the rooms were spacious and bright, and our little guy thrived while he was there.
Incredible and compassionate staff , especially maggie
