At least one of our boys have been going to Springboard in Sudbury for at least 3 years now and both for the better part of 2 (time flies!) We were coming from another center that was unreliable and just fraying a bit, and Springboard way exceeded our expectations. The staff is what makes the place, and I have no idea how the directors' both recruit talented folks and retain them. Most of the classrooms have the same teachers when we first started -- I'm no expert but I think that's hard to beat in this field. The staff go out of their way for putting on special events for the kids -- we, or rather they, just celebrated international mud day, and in the winter there was a top-notch winter wonderland -- just to name a couple.
We have two daughters at Springboard School in Sudbury and have had a terrific experience during our time there. Our oldest (4) has been attending for three years and our youngest (1.5) started a few months ago and we plan to keep her there until kindergarten, so we've seen what it's like for all ages! One of the biggest differentiators with other childcare options in the area is that the school borders White Pond, so the kids are constantly out hiking in the woods or playing in the fields -- we love the access and utilization of so much green space! Their teaching philosophy is Reggio Emilia, which is a more flexible and less structured approach than Montessori, where the teachers adapt activities according to the kids' interests and input. Our girls are always bringing home unique artwork or telling us about their class projects. The staff also keep track of developmental milestones for the kids and help them to achieve age-appropriate goals (e.g., social, motor skills, etc.). The teachers are a diverse bunch, some with decades of experience who have seen it all, paired with newer teachers who are energetic and will get right in the dirt and play with the kids -- all of whom are caring and wonderful to the children. Our girls LOVE their teachers. And the school is small enough that every morning at drop-off, when we walk by other classrooms, all the teachers wave and say hi to my kids even if they never had them in their class, they just know all the children! Springboard has four local locations, so they aren't quite a chain, but they also aren't all on their own, they've got solid leadership and resources from top to bottom. They are also fantastic communicators: the daily report in the parent app includes info on when the kids napped, what they ate, and when they used the potty, as well as pictures and videos from the day; they send regular newsletters that keep us informed about the monthly themes or upcoming family activities (e.g., Halloween parade, ice cream social); and they do a great job handling when kids get sick, communicating with parents clearly and compassionately about the expectations for keeping everyone healthy and when kids are or are not allowed back. The tuition is also better than a lot of options in the area -- another daycare that we considered charged more for fewer hours over four days than Springboard did for five full days. Like many families, we did a ton of research before choosing the best fit for us, and we've been very happy with Springboard for years, and look forward to many more there. For what it's worth, my wife is a guidance counselor and I have a PhD in child development, so we have pretty high expectations for what a high-quality educational and developmental setting should include for our kids, and Springboard checks all the boxes. If you're looking for childcare in Concord or Sudbury, definitely put Springboard School on your list!
I am a person who does meticulous research. We just moved and I was extremely pleased with the daycare my almost 3 year old was in. After looking at the LEAP School, Next Generation Children's Center, Bright Horizons, Orchard Hill, and I ultimately chose Sudbury Children's Learning Center. I thought it had more of the warm and fuzzy family environment I was looking for, less corporate than the other options. It was very important that the school be NAEYC-certified. Only Bright Horizons and Sudbury Children's Learning Center meet that requirement and I found SCLC to be far superior. I also spent a lot of time at the school before enrolling my son. The kids here actually have fun. I found while SCLC offers an extremely safe environment, it wasn't stifling like some of the other places I visited. I think it is the hidden gem of Sudbury and they provide care from infants to pre-K which is huge for my growing family! If you're looking for an alternative in South Sudbury, Orchard Hill would be the best alternative -- the director there is great and they seem to have a nice way with the children!
