My stay at Avalon truly changed my life. When I first arrived, I was bedridden, in constant pain, and unsure of what my future would look like. Today, I’m walking out independently and heading back home stronger than I ever thought possible. I owe so much of that to the incredible team here. From the very beginning, Tosha, the admission nurse, showed such compassion on my first day and helped ease my anxiety by walking me through every step. James made me feel welcomed and supported, guiding me through the admission process with patience and kindness. His door was always open, whether I had questions, or simply a friendly face to visit with. The therapy team pushed me to believe in myself again. Day after day, they encouraged me to go just a little further, and those small victories added up to something truly life changing. Emily, Andrew, and Andrea were amazing! Their dedication, encouragement, and positivity made all the difference in my recovery. The care staff is beyond incredible. I cannot say enough about the compassion, patience, and genuine kindness they showed me every single day. Earnest, Justin, Aaron, James, Franchesca, Joanie, Sylvia, Wilson, Theresa, Adam, and so many others cared for me with such heart. The nurses too! Steven, Jennifer, Tamara, Kahlil and others provided outstanding care and always made me feel safe and supported. Special thanks to Ken and the dietary team for meals that were not only delicious but something I looked forward to each day! Every plate went back empty! Housekeeping and laundry also went above and beyond; my room was always clean and comfortable, and Carol brought warmth and kindness every time she stopped by. Rani, in social services, was truly exceptional. She guided me through the discharge process with care and made sure I had everything I needed to succeed at home, even helping coordinate with DSHS to arrange caregivers. Her support gave me confidence for the next chapter. If I could thank every single staff member at Avalon by name, I would! Each person played a part in helping me heal. Their compassion, dedication, and humanity made this experience more than just rehab; it felt like being surrounded by people who genuinely cared about my recovery and my future. If I ever needed rehabilitation again, I would choose Avalon without hesitation.
Two starts from me ONLY because there were 2 or 3 truly caring nurses there. I had a family member go here after their stay in the hospital for rehabilitation. The physical therapy side was ok but some of the nurses were not caring and understanding to my family members situation at all. On top of it all the place is just filthy. It reeks like stale pee covered up by bleach. It just gets worse and worse as you go down the hall. My family members room was rarely mopped a when it was you really couldn’t even tell. Really disgusting! 🤢
My mother came here to rehab after a fall in her home and a short hospital stay. She sustained injuries to her back that affected her legs and her ability to get around without a walker (which made her depressed). She didn't go here with the best attitude. I was nervous. BUT, the staff did a wonderful job with her. Especially the nursing and PT/OT. They encouraged her constantly. And, gave her a gentle push when she needed one. She came home in much better shape than when she went there. She still needs a walker occasionally. But, she continues to do the exercises she was shown at Avalon and gets better every day! Thank you staff for doing a great job.
My experience with Avalon has been excellent from start to finish. The admission process was incredibly smooth and stress-free — the staff guided us through every step and made everything easy to understand. The nursing team is truly outstanding — attentive, professional, and genuinely caring. They go above and beyond to make sure every patient feels comfortable and well looked after. And the food deserves special mention — it’s delicious, well-balanced, and thoughtfully prepared. I highly recommend Avalon to anyone in the Whatcom or even Skagit county area!
