Each year, on the second Saturday of September around noon, the miracle of Booyah comes to this place. Bring your family and friends, bring your pots to fill. Booyah (also spelled booya, bouja, boulyaw, or bouyou) is a thick stew, arguably believed to have originated in Belgium, and brought to northeastern Wisconsin by Walloons, it is now made throughout the Upper Midwestern United States. Booyah can require up to two days and multiple cooks to prepare; it is cooked in specially designed "booyah kettles" and usually meant to serve hundreds or even thousands of people. The name can also refer to a social event surrounding the meal.
Went to 8:00 mass on Memorial Day weekend. The deacon gave the opening remarks and the homily. In the opening he scolded parishioners about being too enthusiastic about the Sign of Peace. During the homily he quoted statistics from the New York Post (a National Enquirer like tabloid for NYC). I also learned that Catholicism is the only "true" religion. Not much community here. Stay away from this outfit - "Go where you are fed."
Good things are happening at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, MN! Beautiful liturgy and organ, fellowship after each mass on Sunday’s, multiple men’s and women’s groups that meet monthly. If you are interested in attending a church but don’t feel at home anywhere, I strongly encourage you to join SEAS parish! It took my family a few months to get plugged into the various groups even after joining the parish, but I think that is to be expected. It is my hope and prayer that our community will continue to grow in the years to come!
I don't drive. I sent an email to the parish office stating that I don't drive and that I need a ride to Saturday Vigil Mass. I asked if they could state in the bulletin that there are parishioners in need of transportation to Saturday Vigil Mass and to ask if there are any parishioners who drive who would be willing to provide transportation to Saturday Vigil Mass for those parishioners who don't drive. The parish office said they can't ask parishioners who drive to provide transportation to Saturday Vigil Mass for parishioners who don't drive. That is absolutely ridiculous.
Could be a little more warm and welcoming but hey it's the edge of the cities and everyone knows everyone else so that's what you get. The music has significantly improved with the introduction of better pianists. Daily mass homilies are on point but weekend/bigger mass ones could use a little focusing in on. Overall great place to go to mass and help make your community a better place!
