Sonshine Child Development Center

We’ve had a great experience with Sonshine! The staff are so kind, caring and professional and they plan great activities and have good interactions with our daughter. We initially had some hesitations because of the past reviews but I understand there are new staff members and a new director. We haven’t had any issues or concerns. We can’t say enough good things about the daycare. She’s been attending since 6 months and is just over a year. We recommend Sonshine.

We have had a wonderful experience at Sonshine! My older son attended from age 7 months to five years and was very well prepared to attend Kindergarten when he graduated. He always felt well cared for by the staff, and made many good friends. My youngest is in the infant room currently and I can see the affection for him in the teachers' eyes. Both children have physical disabilities, and although there were definitely some hurdles, overall the director and staff have been very accommodating and conscientious of their differences. I'm guessing the one reviewer below may actually be the parent of the very aggressive, volatile child that was thought to be a potential threat to my son's safety at one point, which kept him from advancing classrooms with his peers. This was very frustrating for me, and my exact words to Chris were "I'm doing everything I can for my child, he's in therapy multiple times a week to try to get stronger, what are the parents doing to help this other child that's a concern for him?". I think it was eventually addressed lovingly and tactfully in the child's best interest. I didn't hesitate for a second to send my younger son here as well!

Our son has been going to Sonshine for almost a year and a half and greatly enjoys spending time with his friends. The staff does wonderful, age appropriate activities with him, including teaching him sign language, new words, and a wide variety of crafts he can be creative with. I smile at all the sweet activities he brings home from school and new sounds he makes while playing pretend (siren noises for fire trucks, and choo choo for trains). They also have an encouraging newsletter they send out about once a quarter that comes with seasonal kids activity ideas, recipes, and book / song recommendations. This school has been quite special for us so far and I’m so thankful we have it so close to home.

My wife and I are very happy with the choice of Sonshine. It has had such a great influence upon our three children. Our daughter attended for 5 years and transitioned smoothly into kindergarten. My fondest memory is one Friday afternoon; picking her up from Sonshine; strapping her into her car seat; having her look up at me; and say "Papa, today I invited Jesus into my heart." That day, at story time, Pastor Kyle had read and prayed with them. Although our three year old didn't know everything, she understood enough to know what Jesus had done for her. As John wrote, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth." Our middle one is excitable, and he tells us many joyful tales of the day's activities and events. Moving to academics, our youngest son, who is not quite two, gets many compliments for his ability to identify the all the letters of the alphabet. It's nice to be able to deflect the praise to his daycare. I know that much of his letter knowledge has come from the efforts of Sonshine's "Penguin" teachers :) In short, we feel blessed to have an excellent daycare for our little ones. Lastly, we have appreciated Sonshine's flexibility with respect to our hours. They were able to accommodate our switch from full time to part time. In conclusion, we have recommended Sonshine to our extended family, and I have no reservations in recommending it to you. ~Jim Weaver

Wonderful daycare! Miss Taryn is so great with those kids. They do a lot of arts and crafts and learn a lot:) Andrea the director is also very nice. They went above and beyond at Christmas time with books for your child,homemade cookies, a Christmas booklet that the kids were in, card,etc. Just so very thoughtful! Highly recommend!
