I do not recommend the School for Little Children for your daycare needs. After paying a nonrefundable $500 deposit, we were informed that our 3-year-old grandchild would no longer be allowed to attend because he was considered “too needy.” This decision came after four months of enrollment, during which time his school supplies were sent home and his name was removed from the classroom wall before we were even notified that he was being dismissed. Each classroom has eight toddlers with two teachers, which sounds like a very reasonable ratio. Unfortunately, that ratio did not translate into patience or appropriate care. The school enforces a three-hour nap beginning at 11:00 a.m. every day. Expecting a three-year-old, who has only been awake a few hours, to sleep for that long is unrealistic. Our grandchild struggled with this and became upset when he was not allowed to play and was instead required to “lie quietly” for the remainder of nap time. He was not violent or disruptive; he cried and expressed frustration, which is developmentally normal for a child his age. The staff appeared unequipped to handle this. We attended the Thanksgiving party in November, which was unsettling. The children were seated in a dark gym while parents stood behind them. The children naturally turned around to look for their parents and were corrected for doing so. They were expected to sit quietly, facing forward, eating turkey and dressing in near darkness. This felt inappropriate and unnecessary for three-year-olds. Our grandchild was not allowed to attend the Christmas party due to a “bad nap time,” which meant he was excluded from a class event entirely. Throughout this period, the director and staff contacted us almost daily regarding his behavior. In hindsight, it felt less like collaboration and more like documentation leading up to his removal. Once the dust settled, this entire experience felt personal rather than professional. This was especially disappointing given that he is being raised by grandparents and has had a difficult start in life, something that should have warranted understanding, not dismissal. Based on our experience and conversations with other families whose children were also removed for similar reasons, this school appears unwilling to work with children who do not fit a very narrow expectation of behavior. There is little compassion for families in challenging situations or for children who are still learning how to regulate themselves. If you are looking for a childcare facility that partners with parents, shows flexibility, and supports young children developmentally, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
This school says it stands on Christian values, that every child is a gift from God, and that it does not discriminate against any child yet the minute I disclosed that my son was autistic the director quickly became adamant about him attending there. She made a judgment without ever dealing with him or even seeing him for that matter. Mind you their handbook states that they make accommodations for special needs students. And that I quote as their hand book states “The accommodations must be recommended by a health care professional, local school districts or early childhood intervention programs.” Yet when I inform them that the CEO/licensed psychologist at Kranz suggested that he go a full day the director refused to EVEN TRY to allow my son to attend a full day. She claimed “she prayed about it and she thinks he would be best somewhere else.” As a person that works in education myself I know I would never deny a child without first giving a child an opportunity or even a fair evaluation. I am so disappointed in this school ! I will not EVER recommend it to anyone.
I can't say enough great things about SFLC, there's nowhere else I would trust with my kids. Loving, caring, genuinely nice administration and staff.
My kids attend school here and it is a great place to send your kids!
