Joining RWA is the best decision we have ever made. Our 7 and 9 year old came there from a Montessori school and RWA respects and fosters their individuality. They have more structure and real world preparation than Montessori shools and way more flexibility than public schools. It seems like Jenny and her staff have struck a perfect balance. They spend several hours a day outside exploring the forest and learning outdoors. In addition to structured learning, there is also time for the children to explore their interests and pick books to read. My kids are upset when the weekend comes or if they have a day off. They're all smiles in the morning and I have trouble getting them in the car after school. The staff of RWA has a strong pedagogical foundation with a large amount of loving warmth.
Roots and Wings is the perfect blend of nature and academics. Watching my son’s love for reading, math, helping around the house or being outside has been beautiful!! He learns skills like folding laundry, sewing, music, Spanish, identifying plants/animals in nature and so much more. Having my 4 year old tell me, “we don’t have to throw it out mom, we can just sew it” blew my mind! Or begging me to help with laundry and matching socks. While these skills grew, his academic skills continue to thrive as well! He has found a love for learning and his tailored academic plan for him has made him feel so smart and never pressured. Small class sizes allow for individualized learning plans. He also is thriving being in mixed age groups that don’t hold him back from excelling in subjects that he loves. The older children are so caring and kind with all the younger children and enjoy teaching them. The only thing I wish, is that I could attend this school as well! I am truly jealous of my child’s education centered around love and growth 🩷
We could not be happier with our experience at this school! The new location is absolutely beautiful — warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed. What truly sets this school apart, though, is the incredible care and attention the staff and leadership give to each child. The education is tailored to my kids’ individual needs, and every question or concern we’ve had has been addressed in near-real time. The couple who runs the school could not be kinder, and the teachers are beyond excellent — dedicated, skilled, and genuinely invested in their students’ growth and happiness. One example that really stood out: when my child was feeling anxious about a project, the principal and teacher stepped in immediately, handled it with so much empathy, and completely turned things around. That level of care and responsiveness is truly rare. We’re so grateful to be part of this community and can’t recommend the school highly enough!
A really unique and wonderful place, with incredible leadership. I was anxious starting the year somewhere new for my daughter, but she made best friends day one, and by the end of the first week was complaining the weekend was starting! Not how that's generally supposed to work, but it's how it did. 😂 It's something special with a lot planned for the future, and the future seems bright. If you are looking for an alternative for your kids, I would strongly suggest at least reaching out.
