The first time I ever went to church at Refuge was about 15 years ago. I was sitting at home, high out of my mind, and I kept having this thought of how wonderful I was told the services were. Even in my worst moments I still loved God, but I had never really had good experiences with "Christians" because of my past and current lifestyle, It was evening time and I knew that Sunday night service was about to happen in maybe 30 minutes. The next thing I knew I was walking in the door. I wanted to be there but I felt so unworthy and out of place. Then I saw this woman coming towards me, who I later found out was the pastor's wife, in the middle of a song. It was packed, so I don't know what made her come to me. I was more use to people running the other way. But Sister Jessie came and stood right beside me, never missing a clap or word of the song everyone was praising God to. When I got the nerve to look up and at her I saw her looking at me and smiling. And not only did she never miss a beat with the music, she also acted like she didn't realize I was clearly high on drugs. I will never in my entire life forget that moment. Going forward, she tried to be a friend/sister in Christ to me but I was hurting in so many ways and the devil momentarily won. I ended up getting arrested and serving nine years in federal prison. Today when I walked in the door at Refuge, I thought of God speaking of returning to your first love because Refuge church is the very first place I ever truly felt the love of God. I just can not say enough about the mercy and grace that this House of the Lord extends to broken people and the impact that it has on their lives for eternity.
Watch the greatest showman at this church, it was an awesome play and at the end pastor Greg spoke and you could feel that Jesus Christ presence was in this awesome Christian environment. The church's service is the same time as Heritage or we would be attending refuge, still planning to attend a Sunday night service. And our friends children attend the Christian academy here, (13 & 8 yo), they are so knowledgeable in the Bible and kind, Mason teaches me things about the Bible each time he's here, love it. Definitely recommend this church and their Christian academy School.
Refuge Church can best be described as "welcome home". The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The people are genuine and loving. The presence of God is strong and moving in EVERY service. I've been a member for over 5 years and absolutely couldn't ask for a better church family.
Pastor Greg and Jessica are amazing and the real and true definition of Christian. It is a honor to be able to worship God in Spirit and in Truth at Refuge. You are loved from the moment you walk in the door and even after you leave. If you are thinking about visiting, just do it, you won't find another church building but a church family.
My daughter and I have been going to Refuge for 4 years. We were made feel like family since the 1st time we walked through the doors.We have an Amazing pastor, Greg Adkins( family), and assistant Kevin Bond (family)!!!!!!!!! Atmosphere????? Oh my goodness, can't even put into words. We drive 35 miles one way, maybe that will tell you how much we love it. Many ministries within our church as well.By day it's a Christian School, Friday and Saturday nights you can visit Fun Factory. Skating, games, clean music, food .......need i say more. Come see us!!
