What Parents Say
Redeemer by the Sea Lutheran Preschool in Carlsbad receives predominantly positive reviews praising the warm, welcoming environment, experienced and caring teachers, engaging play-based curriculum, and safe facilities. However, one parent reported a significant dispute over non-refundable deposits and concerns about the center's handling of families with special circumstances.
Redeemer by the Sea creates the most welcoming environment for these kids! The warm smiles and happy enthusiastic greetings literally do not change from the start to the end of the school year. The directors Ms. Malloy & Ms. Rhonda both greet the kids every morning and afternoon by name. You can tell all of the teachers are genuinely excited to be there, they are all so friendly and engaging. Our son had Ms. Stephanie and Ms. Violetta. They are the sweetest and energetic duo with a ton of experience. They make the kids feel so special and loved. They are respectful and take the time to really get to know the kids. They make learning fun (my personal fav - they even taught them about dental health and why brushing teeth is so important, amazing!) it's play based learning and they do the cutest crafts too. They have a pumpkin patch event, Mother's Day/Father's Day parties, a Christmas + Easter performance, and even a jog-a-thon! Our son also has a food allergy, which they take very seriously and we greatly appreciate. We feel totally at ease when we drop him off. This is was our first experience choosing a preschool with our first child so we toured.. several.. schools!! After we toured Redeemer we knew hands down, it was the one. We couldn't be more pleased with our decision. We are now on his second year here - our son still gets so excited and truly looks forward to going to preschool every day. They get to go to chapel once a month and Pastor D makes it so much fun! The campus is new, clean, has a spacious playground and is extremely safe/secure!
A growing and vibrant church. This is the place where we come together to celebrate and serve our God. Outstanding preschool and Kindergarten - there are a lot of families with young children. There is a great mix of traditional Lutheran liturgy and values and also forward leaning contemporary services with great live music from a praise band. There is a home here where any race, economic or family background will find friends and support. Give this place a try... we did 6 years ago and have been part of the Redeemer family ever since.
We had a pretty awful experience with Redeemer. We signed up our daughter after being on the waitlist, and paid a non-refundable deposit for tuition, supplies and registration fee. You have no choice but to sign this as you sign up. A couple months later, we got a diagnosis our daughter had a special need and needed therapy, but the only time to do that was during the time we had class at Redeemer. The other option Redeemer gave us was in the afternoon sessions which didn't work for us, since we work. We withdrew 2+ months before school began and they replaced her spot but refused to give us back our deposit, even after we laid out the circumstance to them. We had to take them to court to try to recover it. The judge ruled that even though it's bad business for them to do this and a bad way to treat families of those you're supposed to be helping, they could keep the nearly $500 because they offered us an option B (an option which didn't work for us). This, also despite the fact that the CA Supreme Court has ruled non-refundable deposits ARE refundable if a replacement "buyer" (student) is found. They can't legally enrich themselves over our unfortunate circumstance, but they--a church preschool--opted to do that. We are very frustrated, and not the first family to deal with this. Be wary of what you sign, and the fact that Redeemer's people don't necessarily have your best interests in mind, even when it comes to an unforeseen circumstance surrounding a 3-year-old.
Worst Easter experience at any church. First time at this church. Some major photo production out front (poor timing on the second busiest time of the year). Greeted at door by old guys wearing white holy robes (like episcopalians and Catholics wear), and elders who gave me a printed packet. I stepped out front to read while waiting for my children and grandchildren in their van. Photographer immediately approached me to push me aside, out of view because of my Hawaiian shirt in background (I forgot my Armani and tie). Sorry, I don't attend churches where the type of car you arrive in, and what you're wearing make the poison inside of the cup seem clean (Isn't that what the Sanhedrin were criticized for by Jesus?). Yikes. Me thinks not. I think I will stick with Bible-based non-denominational churches and leave all this religiosity for those who expect our appearance is what makes us holy enough to meet Jesus. By the way, a professional photographer (like me) would have arranged his venue timing so that crowds of people (like on Easter Sunday) don't cramp his style or backgrounds. Never coming back. Stick to KWave (107.9) and your bible if you want to meet God. Oh, I'm pretty sure he wears a white tunic with gold sash and gold boots (Yep, that's what it says in Daniel 10:5), sans tie and jacket, and the pearl white Lexus (or worse: Black Beemer, Satan's car).
Very friendly nice people
