What Parents Say
Rainbow Child Development Center receives overwhelmingly positive feedback from most parents, with praise for caring staff, professional development, Spanish immersion, and strong connections to St Paul Public Schools for developmental support. However, one parent reported significant issues including poor communication, unauthorized contact with pediatrician, lack of transparency about behavioral concerns, and abrupt dismissal from the program.
We've had our son there from six months through 4 yrs old. We love the teachers and the leadership there. They have a standard for staff that love what they do. We had briefly sent him to a Spanish immersion center after being on a long waiting list, but we were back at Rainbow in 2 months, where he's had a much more positive experience. You could tell the professional development the Rainbow staff get pays off. They have a lot more strategies for dealing with kids learning to control their feelings. They also have a great connection to St Paul Public Schools so there are resources for any development issues that come up. Our boy was behind in vocab by a couple months and after working with them he's ahead.
My experience with bringing my son to Rainbow was excellent. Rainbow staffed provided me feedback on how my child's day was and provided me ideas on how to support him better. Partnering with Rainbow and St Paul school district helped me discover that my child has ADHD. Rainbow was very patient and understanding with helping my son learn solutions to help him every day. The staff was very transparent, loving, nurturing, and caring. The team went over and beyond to support my family and me with our transition.
My children have been attending rainbow for about a year now and we have had nothing but good experiences with them! My sons toddler teacher is the literal best when it comes to caring for the children! Not to mention teaching them how to speak in spanish has been absolutly amazing! My daughter is in the preschool room and absolutly loves her teacher as well! This daycare has been nothing but helpful and there for us and our children! I cannot thank Maria and staff enough!
My 4 y.o. attended this preschool for 3 months and it was probably one of the worst experiences my family & I had endured. It started off ok and we were hopeful, however things went downhill fast. Ultimately, we put in our notice and the director decided since my wife called her rude and sarcastic (which she was) a few days after we put in our notice because she (Maria) reached out to our pediatrician without permission and we wanted to know why; that our son no longer needed to attend from that day forward. Forcing us to find alternative childcare in short time. There was little to no communication, diagnosis that were placed upon my child without the proper education to do so, reaching out to my son’s pediatrician without our permission, rudeness, 5 min time restrictions on when and how to communicate with staff (if you needed to speak with a staff member and conversation went longer than 5 minutes, you needed to schedule a meeting. None of which was explained to us prior or in the handbook. The director put emphasis on the fact that she spent 6hrs in about 11 days talking with my family about how WE could help THEM support OUR child.), we weren’t told or given copies of the lesson plan or what our child was learning, after 2 incidents reports my child was expected to be on a behavioral plan (we constantly asked for explanations as to why our child needed to be on a behavioral plan and what was needed to support them to support our child, at every occasion the ball was dropped.). These are all vital things that should be done in order to establish & maintain a good relationship. The children were crammed into a room that was divided by age, with little to no room to roam around and be children. My son had an incident report almost everyday before we told about his day, greeted or what he learned; we were given an incident report. There was never anything good said about his day. We reached out the several specialist to monitor the “behaviors” or “struggles” my child had (again no one would say what exactly they were besides behavioral), we had him evaluated for “special needs” or “developmental delays”, and none of which were found or diagnosis. It wasn’t even recommended that he received special education or an IEP. As parents you start to wonder are you doing something wrong or if your child is the “bad seed”. He’s not and we should’ve listened to our intuitions and pulled him when we saw or noticed the first red flag. My son is healthy, happy, friendly, lovable & energetic. I now know this place just wasn’t for us and wasn’t equipped to provide a service we needed. I wouldn’t recommend this preschool, if you’re big on knowing about your child’s day, communication, maintaining a healthy relationship, or simply a good experience; this is not the place.
