I visited most daycares in JC before putting my 6 month old into Smiles and I'm happy I did. There were definitely other "flashier and fancy" options, but my main concern was that most schools have too many kids per class (the teacher: student ratio is the same everywhere, but when you literally have too many kids in one room and one cries, it can trigger a domino effect). During my daycare visits I kept seeing multiple kids crying at once and not enough teachers to attend to all of them. Smiles is a much smaller and chill daycare (at least the baby room). My baby cried a little her first two days while adapting but that was it. The small kid area is in the front so I can see my baby during dropoff and pickup. I'm sure it happens, of course, but I have yet to see any babies crying with my own eyes. The vibe is always relaxing, playful and they really take into consideration your baby's nap/meal schedule which I really appreciate. Rashida and Ms Debbie are both very sweet to my daughter and she gladly jumps into their arms every morning without barely looking back at me haha. I also get daily feedback and a photo which I look forward to every day. One feedback would be for them to update their exterior. It feels a little outdated, dark and unkept. At first it made me question what else was outdated about their school, but honestly it didn't match back to the quality service offered on the inside. A cheerful and modern look to their exterior would bring more confidence to outsiders.
My child has been going to smile nursery for over a year and she loves it. The teachers have been great and we have seen such improvement in her development. Ms Debbie has been super helpful and a real pleasure to deal with. We appreciate all the support and care you have provided over the years.
My son went to this daycare since he was 4 months old. After speaking with Miss Debie during the orientation, I immediately knew that she will be the best person to take care of him and I was right. My son was treated like a family member and we are very happy with the experience we had with all the teachers. I have to say that Smile daycare is a big part of him meeting all his milestones & becoming a very social and confident toddler. I highly recommend this daycare in JC area.
Phenomenal. My son attended both the nursery and then transitioned to the pre-school. I can't say enough good things about Miss Debbie, Amita, Yolanda, and Zierra. They’ve really gotten to know him and do a wonderful job taking care of him day-in and day-out. My son is happy to go there and has made a lot of friends, whom he plays with at the playground after we pick him up! We are all going to be sad to leave Jersey City and Smile.
Added in edit: I recently discovered that SMILE Preschool (@smilepreschooljc) posted a photo of my daughter in a video on their Instagram without my consent. When enrolling, I explicitly refused permission for her image to be used in any online ads or marketing. This is a serious violation of my trust. Had I known about this sooner, I would have withdrawn her from the school immediately. This disregard for parents' wishes is unacceptable and can put children's privacy and safety at risk. Original review: It would be ZERO stars if that was an option. Sherry Singh often mentions her reputation around Jersey City and talks about her family, but in my experience, it feels disingenuous. The moment money is no longer involved, her true priorities become clear, and the level of care and professionalism drops dramatically. I’ve had a highly disappointing experience with SMILE Preschool. In 2023, I received an unsigned, homemade-looking childcare statement that couldn’t be verified for my taxes. After multiple follow-ups, I was told to wait until their accountant, Calvin Reid, returned in October 2024. When I reached out again, I was ignored, and during a call, the staff member acted like she didn’t know who the accountant was, then abruptly hung up on me. After that, I called the owner, Sherry Singh, who had previously given me her number. She responded aggressively and unprofessionally, speaking over me and then hanging up on me as well. Additionally, when my family had to relocate to Texas, I informed the school as early as possible that my daughter’s last day would be October 11. Instead of understanding our situation (I had to leave my job and couldn’t afford childcare for time we wouldn’t even be in the state), they coldly insisted we pay through November 12, 2024, per their policy, with no consideration of our hardship. This lack of empathy made me pull my daughter out weeks earlier than planned, even though we had already paid. Overall, the unprofessionalism and lack of care for families is unacceptable, and I cannot recommend this daycare to anyone.
