What Parents Say
Prime Time Discovery - Southside is a Georgia DFCS office that serves families needing government assistance. Reviews indicate significant operational challenges including long wait times, inconsistent staff quality, and difficulty reaching case workers, though some staff members receive individual praise for their helpfulness and compassion.
Way crowded. People up front are of no help, do not know why they sit there. You will wait in the gym, nothing is private and if you are looking for emergency assistance, they give you a list of places to call, which are of no help either. All in all, horrible experience, left feeling worse than I went in, which I didn't think was possible. Also, if you are going for food stamp assistance, if you need immediate help, emergency assistance, DO NOT DROP OFF YOUR APPLICATION, WAIT TO BE SEEN!! I was told just to drop off my application, 2 months later I hear back and was informed I should have waited to be screened for immediate help. Well, I would have if I was not told the opposite. Do some if these employees think that we like go go to them for help?? Anyway, hope this helped.
These is almost always quite the wait. I have had helpful, amazing, attentive people that helped me, and I have had people who were obviously jaded and bored with their jobs. It seems it's just a fifty-fifty chance on who you get and how much their mood will allow them to help you. More often than not, my questions are answered satisfactorily, but I have been given completely false information and sent on wild goose chases as well. When it's a business that handles government help for those who are truly in need, I feel it could be a bit more efficient. Some will listen well and help you, some will interrupt you to tell you information that is not helpful.
If there was a way to give negative stars I would! I dropped off my application for food stamps 12/11 nothing was done about it never heard anything back called and called to speak to someone finally talked to someone Ms. Wilson (she was the only help I received multiple times she herself gets 10 stars). Finally get a phone call interview 02/12. And they say o your over the income for assistance. Because my husband is receiving unemployment and only has 3 or 4 weeks left! And when that runs out apply again. Ok I'll apply again and have my application overlooked once again! Are you kidding me!? A household of 4, I'm not on section 8, and my husband has been looking for a job. It has been a complete struggle and yet people who really need the assistance get denied!
Our services were cancelled due to negligence on their part. We received a letter in the mail stating we needed to provide them with information about a job loss and new job pay rate. I never lost my job. The letter was also received in the mail 15 days after the date on the letter and it stated we had until a specific date to give them that information which was the day after we received the letter. I called our case worker and got her voicemail. Left a voicemail stating the issues and never got a call back. Now we no longer have services due to the incompetence of the employees that Richmond County hires.
I used to be in DFCS custody until I turned 18. I wasn’t ready to sign out but I did anyways. The system is beyond messed up I don’t even think there is a way to fix it. I wasn’t cared for or treated the way I should have been by my case manager and the supervisor of my case manager . My case manager and her supervisor are friends and I can even say they are best friends. I’ve constantly asked for a new case manager but never for one. My case manager was supposed to call or see me monthly while I was in CCYA. While I was in there custody for over 4 months I was only seen once. I have been called many things. My my case manager and her supervisor. “She’s gonna be back when she signs out.” “She’s an embarrassment.” I’m surprised the people that I’ve came across still work there. I’ve tried reporting my case manger Jameil Whitfield and her supervisor Veronica Coley to someone of a higher status but never succeeded bcz I was in there custody obviously. Just because we have attitude problems or don’t wanna listen. Doesn’t mean treat us like trash, we’ve been through things some people can’t imagine. PLEASE CHECK YOUR STAFF AND ASK THESE CHILDREN YOURSELVES IF THERE OK BECAUSE A CASE MANAGER IS A HIGHER STATUS OF THAT CHILD AMD WILL DO ANYTHING TO LEEP THERE JOB, BUT YET COMPLAIN “I don’t get paid enough for this” then quit!!!!!!!!!
